Please post if you want to help me make it. i'v never made a plug before so i need to know how to do it.

Okay, let's start by being a bit more specific. What exactly are you wanting this plug to do? Do you want to make some special outfits available which when bought will give you an escort who will stay with you until it dies? Or do you want it to be temporary, like hire it for a month and then it leaves? I mean you're pretty vague here - what's wrong with just hiring an escort normally?

And seriously, stop with the polls - they're completely pointless.

I'v got a teacher who plays EV Nova, and he says if i can make a plug where you can buy escorts that cand die, he'll give me a 100 as a test grade.

Escort that can't die? Okay, so all you need to do is make a really powerful ship (or a planet-type ship) and make it available for hire but not purchase.

oops, no. can die. it's just like taking one over, but you have two options in getting a escort. capture one, or buy one for yourself forever. when you go to the shipyard, you buy a ship and choose if you want to buy it for yourself or as a escort.

But there are already two options for getting an escort: Capture one or hire one.
If you really do want to 'buy' the escort rather than hiring it then you could make some outfits to do that. There's no way you can make it happen from the shipyard though.

If i understood him right he wants to be able to purchase an escort which cost no money too keep..

Which will be pretty easy, just set the daily cost to 0.

but thats no fun. i want to buy a ship once and never have to pay again. and only certain ships are hire-able. i want 3 or 4 mod starbridges, class d or e, then i'll juice them up more. you can't hire those. i'd also get a warship full of fighters and a levithan, for hauling room.

Hire.

Hail them.

Click "upgrade at next shipyard"

Land somewhere with a shipyard.

There are very few ships that you can buy but not hire:
Kestrel
Ravens
Vell-os ships
Mod Starbridge
Starliner
Asteroid Miner

Any other ship, if you can buy it then you can also hire it though it may be very rare. Warships full of fighters and leviathans are all available for hire. And as The Apple Cřre says you can hire a normal Starbridge and then upgrade it to a class d or e, or do something similar with other types of ships.
You can implement methods of 'buying' an escort where you pay for it once and never again but they would be very limited in which ships are available and wouldn't have the flexibility of upgrading them as the existing system does. I honestly don't see the point.

There is a way to make it so you can buy escorts through the shipyard. You need missions that give you escorts that show up in the shipyard. They must also subtract pay from you like a drop bear mission. The desc should read something along the lines of: do you want to buy a Shuttle as an escort for 10,000 credits? or whatever. This is a tedious way to buy the escorts, will get annoying and just might provide you with free escorts if you have 0 money.

Hey man, I've hired starliners before...

i think i have a solution to buying escorts. if a ship costs 1,000,000 credits, normally it costs 100,000credits+10,000credits per day to hire. make it cost 10 times the hiring cost, or 1,000,000+100,000 credits per day, and also make a rank appear when you hire the escort so that it increases your income by 100,000 credits per day. the credits per day it costs for the escort cancels out the credits per day you get from your rank, making the escort cost 1,000,000 credits for as long as you want. the only problem is, how can you get rid of the rank when the escort dies?

So you have dozens of missions pop-up whenever you enter the shipyard asking if you want to hire various ships? You're right, that would be extremely tedious, especially if you didn't want to hire any.

That's taken from the 1.0.8 data files. If you're on windows with 1.0.6 then it may be different.

There's a better problem than that - how can you activate the rank when the escort is hired?

The only feasible way to buy escorts is by use of missions with special ships set to escort you. Make them available in the BBS - if they're set to take away credits then they won't be offered if you're short.

Well you activate the rank with the "On Hire" NCB field. I still think the missions-attatched-to-outfits method is the way to go, but isn't there a limit to how many missions Nova can run.

P.S. Using Phyco's method the "On Destroy" NCB field could be used to end the rank, I think, but you would need seperate rescources deviding the escort ships from the Dude ships. Otherwise, hiring a pirate enterprise and destroying a different one could become very costly.
