I don't like it.
Help me change it. I want to get rid of the news and the gambling. The only button I want there is the hire escorts. I know I could change the gui to "hide" the news and gambling, but how do I make it so no one can click on them EVER? Muahaha.
If you're on a Mac, I think you can do it through the DITL resource by taking out the two user areas for the news and gambling. You can also move elements around in the window. I've never actually done this, so I don't know if it'll screw anything up in-game, but it seems like it should work.
I don't know if there's an equivalent on Windows.

Well, you can use the new missioncomputer to edit the DITLs. Just delete/move the buttons off somewhere, but there is no way to block the hotkeys. You could always change the news/gambling, too. Just to a blank screen that says sometihng like "gratz, you found the hotkeY", that almost nobody will see.
Do not delete anything in a DITL. It will mess up that window so that, say, the bar text could become the leave button. If you want to remove a button, move it out of the visible area of the window.
For actually editing DITLs, they are stored in the Nova application (in the Mac version- they would be in the "EV Nova.res" data file on a PC, if you could edit them). The best program for editing them is still ResEdit, although MissionComputer is also capable of doing so (although dragging an item out of the window doesn't work very well).

Ask someone with a Mac to help. There currently isn't any Windows editor that can edit DITLs, and I don't know of anything in development (and until a few weeks ago, there weren't even any common OSX DITL editors).
The attached plugs, once converted, should work. One modifies the bar windows to match the new button layout, and will need a new background, the other just re-centers the two buttons in the original window.
