3d ship developer programs!

list them here!

it would be really nice if people where to link 3D editors (preferrable for OSX with readme on usage) so others can make their own ships!

Pinned at the topic of the forum is a topic called "All the Important Links You'll Ever Need".

Since a list of possible 3d programs is important, you can always post there.

Oh, and if I recall correctly, there were at least two topics from awhile ago which had pretty good lists of 3d programs. The search function is your friend.

Yes, please for the love of god SEARCH! Over the years there have been more topics on this subject than I care to remember.

Also, did you try reading the stickies? In the "Member-Run FAQ" there is a post by what_is_the_matrix about this exact question. Post 4 in this topic.

There are some links to tutorials on the Wings 3d website. If you are new to 3d, I would suggest getting a feel for the program by first modeling simple objects like bottles and coffee mugs before attempting a spaceship. It's easy to assume that a better program will allow you to create better imagery, and in some cases that is true if the program includes large libraries of pre-made content. In general however, the quality of the models you create depends largely on how much experience you have with the program. For example, my first attempt with Bryce looked like a pyramid with two cones sticking out of it. Over the years, I've progressed to making things like this:

The model was made in Wings and I used Bryce to render it. The best advice anyone can give you regarding 3d modeling is stick with it. It's easy to get frustrated and quit, but if you make an investment of time and effort you will get good eventually.
