Quick Question

Is there such a thing as a pilot file editor?

Not that I know of... What do you need changed? I'm sure it's possible to make a plug-in that will change what you need...

Just to change a couple of outfits, speed, and other basic things.

Speed is controlled by the shďp resource. Which outfits you have are indeed stored in the pilot file, but you can create plugins to change that easily enough.

Yeah, those are some simple things that can be done with plug-ins.

In fact, those things are IMPOSSIBLE to change by editing the pilot file.

Get mission computer and resedit or evnew if you are on a pc from the add-ons page. Go to outfits in the novafiles, after making a backup copy of them. Change the tons required, price, required bits and tech level to your liking. Go to ships and change the speed, accel, crew, shields, etc. to your liking. Have fun.

You will, of course, need the registered version of Nova in order for it to load with modified versions of the datafiles. Otherwise, it'll give you a "checksum invalid" message.
