Now, I was wondering, what's up with differences in the landing sounds, the weapon sounds, the warp-sounds, and what should I do to get a weapon or explosion sound from just a normal recording?
what do you mean "whats up with the differences?" it's called veriety. The thing with explosions is that it's a Boom resc. linked to a SND resc. You need to create a new boom and link it to the SND resc.

Okay, the weapon sound are different than the escort speech sounds and landing sounds, but I don't know what the difference is. Like, a res-edit recorded sound will not play as a weapon sound, there is only silence. So, what do I do to make it work?

Are you saying it will not play as a weapon sound, but will play as a landing/escort speech sound?

I think there are more restrictions for sounds that are played in space, such as being 8-bit, mono, uncompressed.

Also 11.025 kHz, .snd ("System 7 Sound") format. QuickTime Pro is good for changing sound attributes, if you've got it. It also can change sound volume, which really helps with mic sounds.
Those restrictions don't apply to landing sounds or escort speech?

I think they apply to sounds played in space, that are played through AST, so yes to escort speech, but no to planet ambient sounds that are played alone.
Thanks, I'm a bit late, but figger'ed her out, anyway.
