Mission Computer Question

I'm currently working with Mission Computer to make a plug for Nova.

When I create a new plugin, I'm presented with a pristine, resourceless wasteland. I want to make modifications to the existing Nova universe, so I'm not sure what to do with this virginal window.

I've (presumably correctly) selected "Nova Files" as the location of my Nova Files under Preferences.

What am I doing wrong?

You need to make a copy of one of the Nova file (which ever you plan to edit) and open the copy and then start to copy the resources yo want to change over to your plug.

When you make a resource on a plug, the plug stands alone. Nova automatically looks in it's plug-in folder and replaces the resources found within. A plug needs only to contain resources which you have changed, so you should be starting off with a blank screen.

Is there some way to make all of the original resources show up for reference? IIRC EV-Edit did this, making it quite easy to make simple plugins (of course, being EV-Edit, these plugins didn't actually work or anything, but that's not the point 🙂 ).

This is indeed the easiest thing to do whilst working with mission comp.

Hi, I'm also working with Mission Computer...

I'm having no trouble assigning resources and such as of yet, but when I want to test my plugin, EVN refuses to start up. It basically gets to the point where it has finished the loading bar, but never gets to the main menu before it just quits.

I am registered.

When Nova does that, it's usually because of one of two things:

1. It ran out of memory. Try increasing the memory allocation.

2. There is a problem with the plug (for example, an out-of-range spin, an outf referencing a nonexistant weap, etc). When Nova finds something like that, it chokes and quits.

Ok, let me tell you what i'm trying to do so you can help me narrow it down.

I'm trying to make a plug-in for a select group of people (specifically the current beta-testing population of Vendetta-Online) by making a mock-up of the game's universe. Thing is, this universe has only 25 sectors of space, and I'm having a) trouble disconnecting the original, standard EVN sectors from mine, 🆒 having trouble getting the EVN sectors to disappear from the map/not show up in the plugin in EVONE (I usually use Mission Computer X-303), and c) to get it to allow me to create a character to test it (on this last bit, I discovered that emptying my pilots folder allowed me to get to the main menu, but creating a character killed the game when it tried to create it).

Any help with this?

Just an update:

I managed to get into the game and fly around... only problem now is that the normal evn systems and missions are overlapping into the game, and my ship is not visible.

Any suggestions?

Ok, if you are making a plugin where not all of the systems of Nova are used, and you don't want to use the missions from Nova, then you are making a Total Conversion. If you make a TC, you do not want any data from the Nova universe interfering with the data from yours. So, take out all the Nova data files, and put your own data files in the Nova files folder. You probably won't need to take everything out, just the stuff you want to replace, as you will probably want to keep stuff like the game menu intact. So, if you want to have the game only have your own missions, ships, weapons, etc, make some copies of each of the Nova data files, and then edit out each part of them you don't want. Then switch the normal Nova files with your edited ones and your plugin. This will be easier than removing the actual files themselves, as most files carry several resources.

Another question, I use MC for making Override plug-ins, every now and then this RID "8" keeps showing up on desc and misn resources, what's with that?

Resource ID. Usually starts at 128 and goes from there (exceptions do exist).

That was what I first thought but I don't see how it fits with the context.
