Old versions of EV

I don't remember where I saw this, but several weeks ago someone made a post to one of the boards about using the graphics from an old copy of EV to do a plug for either the new version of EV or the classic plug of EVN with the pre-graphics revision graphics. I was looking through some stuff last night and I noticed an old cd for some mac magazine, and on a hunch I put it in my drive and it did indeed have a copy of Escape Velocity 1.0.2. If this is at all a help to that person, whoever it was, I can email the files to them; or, if you know who it was that was looking for it, please tell me/him.

What do you think? I need to either find a picture or take one yet...
Haha. You could be the Ralph Nader of the Intellectual World...

Zacha Pedro asked about those old graphics (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/Forum1/HTML/001530.html#")here,(/url), on the Ambrosia Banter board.

Here's his illustration of the difference between early EVC and the graphics introduced in 1.0.4:

As I mentioned over there, I've got EV 1.0.0 myself, from the same sort of source. Most of the graphics changes involve adding dark smudges to the models' surfaces, but some are more involved.

Actually, while the Manta was changed in 1.0.4, the rest of the new graphics didn't show up until 1.0.5, and for some reason I've never seen adequately explained, a number of the new sprites from the 1.0.5b1 semi-public beta were put back to their originals in 1.0.5b2 and the release version.

Do you have the b1 sprites? What do they look like?

I grew up on the revised ones, so the originals looked freakish and dumb. 🙂

I think that the old graphics are well worth keeping, as a rememberance at least, if not for use. I would suggest seperating the entire pict section and placing it in the EVC addons section. That way whoever wants them can have them.

It may be possible the author will mind; you'd better ask first. I thouroughly compared with the 1.0.5 version, and there are some surprises. For instance, reb ships had ridiculous yellow guns, that have been replaced by gr(a/e)y ones afterwards. The same way, 'fed ships had big blue guns that have been made gr(a/e)y, but only for the shipyard pict, not the ship sprites. In general, colors have been made less ridiculous and arcadish and more realistic, at least from my opinion.

Actually, the Manta is the only ship for which the change is so spectacular; the other changes you don't notice at first when playing with the old sprites.

This is where most of the b2 changes took place; many sprites were put back to the originals, but the modified shipyard and comm graphics stayed. So, if you look at the shipyard pictures, you can get a fairly good idea of what the rest looked like.
