O.k. to make it short..... As I am no longer a MAC owner: Could someone do me a favor and extract the drumroll intro music from the original EV mac version - turn it into a universally readable music format - then email or make available for download..........Plz?

Download the thing from the addons page that lets you play EV (orig.) on Nova, inside the Nova files is the music, in MP3 format. The file is available for Windows and Mac.

That doesn't include the drumroll. The drumroll is no longer used by the engine, and it would be useless to include it.
Also, nobody here can guarantee that that link will work.

I would gladly post the drum roll in the format of your choice. However, I want to be sure I am not violating any terms of agreements or copyrights by providing the file online in an altered format without the rest of the contents of the game.

Because it's no longer used. I'll download it and see, but if it's there, it serves no purpose.
And I wasn't commenting on your being helpful; it's just that it's a link to a file in the add-ons section.
EDIT: The link works. Also, it does not include the drumroll. I don't see how you can say it includes it.
And it sure as hell is not in MP3 format.

I think the drumroll on the original was a special midi file that could be sped up and slowed down by the engine. There's no way to do this with the Nova engine.

I don't think so. I'm fairly confident the loop and intro were SND resources. Perhaps you are right that originally they were MIDI sound files. So theoretically, one could recreate that loop (or make a better one). There are many free loops out there (not necessarily all drum loops) to accompany the optional GarageBand application.
The drumroll was played whenever EV was doing its scrolling effect. It was comprised of two 'snd ' resources. Being unused by Nova, it is not included in the port.
Here are the loops as snd resources inside an EVN plug that EVNEW should be able to open once you've run it through the Mac-to-PC plug converter. I hope this helps; I don't have time tonight to puzzle out how to convert from snd to some other format. You can always use wiretap and some other program, such as soundstudio.

Sorry I was confused, I thought you meant the music that played as you started up the game, which is included.
iTunes. It can convert a number of formats to AAC or MP3. Unless you're using the Windows version, which (in 4.2 at least), can only convert to AAC.

I used itunes when I made those mp3s, but I first had to use wiretap (record audio to aiff) and soundstudio (isolate the audio I wanted).
Are you suggesting that there's a way to convert the snd resources directly to mp3 using itunes? If so, I'd like to know how. I'll experiment with this some more.

No need for that. After experimenting, I realized that I could replace the audio in an old OS 9 sound clip I had lying around, and then convert that with itunes.
I have updated the mp3s previously linked with the new, unaltered versions. Enjoy!

Yes. You can convert to another format inbetween, such as AIFF. I used a freeware app called SoundEffects to convert to AIFF, then converted to MP3 via iTunes. Or, if you're on OS X (for some odd reason, iTunes seems to be able to read 'snd ' resources on OS X but not OS 9—unless I'm hopelessly confused), you can do it without any inbetween conversion.
