Im rather new to making plugins, but i can make some, since i wanted to add some of my favorite songs to EV. I poped the song into Resedit, and found no "resources". So i looked around (at the ev bible) and couldnt find what the song thing is like stuff about ships = shďp. So is it even possible to do this? Any and all help would be, well, helpful.

Yes, it is. There is a file in the nova data folder name Novamusic.mp3(or something to that effect), and just rename your .mp3 file to that and just pop it in there.

Not NOVA! just Esacpe Velocity Orignial... EVN= ev nova...EVO=ev override....get it?
So anyways, i did a little looking around i made a little resource thing. But its size was zero and im stuck.... Is there anyone out there that is still a EV Plugin dude that knows what im talking about?
You may want ot use a sound edit program that can allow you to manipulate resource forks or whatever they're called. One way to do it I think is to export your music as a system sound (Assuming if you're on a Mac), then use ResEdit to extract the resource sound under SND and copy and paste it into an EV plug-in. Finally, replace the resource ID with any of the following numbers:
30000 Main Intro 30001 Loop Starter 30002 Loop Music 30003 Transition

Im on a mac, okay, what sound edit progam thing would you recommend?
SoundApp (by WhiteNoise, I believe) is good for that purpose, depending on the format of your music.
I miss the drumroll music and the scrolling of EV/O...
I'm not sure if it has to be a .mov (for QuickTime in Nova) or if it can be any QuickTime-readable format. I'll test it later.

if you want to do something with music other than just change the intro theme, read through (url="http://"http://www.ev-nova.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5083")this ev-nova.net thread(/url) -- there's discussion of QuickTime, and SpacePirate came up with a simultaneously thunderous and sneaky way to add background music to the game.

For anywhere you can use QuickTime movies, you can insert a QuickTime General Midi file, with full drums, orchestra, everything. You don't need to have any visuals for this. Midi files can be incredibly complex and yet still only a couple of kb in size.
Unfortunately this won't work for the title music, but it does mean that you can have as much music as you can write throughout your plugin.

Is Midi the only format that will work with no visuals?

You don't even need a still image, huh? I did not know that.
Come to think of it, there was at least one EVO plug ("Thorrion") that used a non-Midi QT movie with no visuals to play a song upn completion of the mission. As I remember it, that game threw some strange nubby thing on the screen when the "movie" was playing. Most likely, it was the 4 corner graphics for the frame of the expected-but-missing video. I haven't myself checked to see whether this is fixed in EVN. It sounds like you have, though!
In case it wasn't clear before, though, I think SpacePirate's method allows snd-format music to appear as apparent background music while the player's ship is in space. Is there a way to do that with QT?

No, you can only do it with 'SND ' resources. Which is why I've been hesitant to use BGM frequently, most people wouldn't have the connection to download such a freaking huge plugin. One full-length (4 minute) song in SND format could be upwards of 90 megs. Of course, you can convert any sound format (including MIDI) into SND using quicktime pro, as I recall it. In fact, I believe Quicktime uses system 7 sound as its base format for copying and pasting... If you copy a .wav segment from QT, and paste that into a ResEdit file, it should convert it automatically.

Well, when I said that, what I was trying to imply was something like an SWF file to emulate the drumroll background and text scrolling effect (including the speeding up and slowing down by pressing the up and down arrow keys). Of course, this doesn't mean it will necessarily work properly in Nova, hence why I want to test it.
I remember someone talking about this before, and they discovered that Nova will not pipe user-feedback through to swf files, so the keystrokes will stop at nova and not reach Quicktime. Really cuts down on interactivity.

Damn. So that means they can't click on a button to speed it up or slow it down either? Man that sucks.
I guess the only way to do it is to have it scrolling at the regular speed. Oh well.
I never knew that you could control the speed like that. You could imagine how long I sat there trying to read those damned texts before I learned how to crack open the resources and read it from the STR#s directly...
Crazy things you learn only after the game is obsolete. :frown:
