Well, there has been a major lack of (good) plug-ins recently...
------------------ One wonders just HOW the "Engine Upgrade" increases the ship's speed by 150 AU/hr in the original EV....
Well, I've checked the ship resource, and nothing seems out of place or dodgy. Maybe it is indeed the interface Here is a version without the interface. See if you can now buy ships. (url="http://"http://www.trustclip.com/0I9A6PM91SO96eAJDNSU6S36B67")Arpia for windows, no intf(/url)
Also, the walkthrough has been completed and uploaded here, so it should soon be available on the addons page.

Ok, after about 3 reboots and 6 crashes to desktop, the problem is the size of your status bar pict. It is one pixel too long. (Yours is 194x768, the default Nova picts are all 194x767). For whatever reason, this is a fatal crash for WinNova users but not Mac users, apparently. All I had to do was resize it, and no crash occurred on buying your new ships.
------------------
Thanks ever so much.
Can you guys try this new version out? Let's hope it works now. (url="http://"http://www.trustclip.com/EUMCAHU9SV1N0e2UOVFGOCOFRAI")Arpia for PC(/url)
Nope, the crash is back.
Ok, my earlier diagnosis may have been wrong. As I just tried resizing the status bar pict back to 194x768, and it worked no problem.
Now, I'm no graphics guru, but I think there may be a problem with the graphic format your using for the status bar. The pict shows up just fine in EVNEW, and exports to bitmap with no problems. Once re-imported, the plug-in doesn't crash. This leads me to believe that somehow your pict isn't in a WinNova friendly format. But this is way outside my area of expertise.
Weird I'm using Photoshop. I export the sidebar image from the plug-in in jpeg format, resize it in Photoshop, save as a pict resource file and then place that pict in the plug-in. Otherwise, send me your image at pacehaldora@hotmail.com, and we'll see if I can make this work (coz I'd still like to be able to change the plug-in if necessary and not have to go through the whole thing again ).
When Photoshop exports your PICT (I know since it's the same for other programs, they use QT for that), check in options that it's to be uncompressed, it should be better.

No dice. Same ole crash. Did you try using the pict resource I sent back to you?
Not yet. This is the one. The other one had a pict I made using Zacha Pedro's advice. So, here's the new link: (url="http://"http://www.trustclip.com/4JR0T3D85AGCKe0PCCUUE332519")Arpia PC(/url)
Hope this one works
That did it, no crashes on my end.
By the way, it's not a great idea to distribute your plug-in uncompressed. Zipping a REZ file will protect it just fine.
Well, it was just a random thought I was having...
(This message has been edited by Zacha Pedro (edited 07-21-2004).)
Here's a zipped version with slouch's pict. (url="http://"http://www.trustclip.com/9GBSFRB5JM721e33SH8UMLVAD2K")Arpia PC(/url)
Tell me if it works for all of you guys.
Works fine for me now. And who was it that scoffed at my suggestion that the ฤntf resource may have been at fault? Tries not to shoot a significant glance at Aelran. Nice interface. Fancy PC Nova foaming at the mouth over one measly pixel (but hey, it's on Windoze - what do you expect?)
Well, thank you slouch & Belthazar for the work on the intf Now I'll just wait for one other answer, of "Mike" who had problems with the zipped version:
Quote
yes I unzipped it but with win-zip, I don't normally use win-zip but when i got this one it showed up as a win-zip file. I tried unzipping it again with Suffits and this time i Arpia ships were for sale but i when i tried to buy them NOVA shut itself off.><
I've sent him an unzipped version, so now I'm waiting to see his answer.
Oh, and, when I officially release the windows version, there will be the mac update too. Thing is, I've also changed more than a few of the msn descs (made them longer) for those who like a story a little more complete (has something to do with what is discussed on (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/ubb/postdisplay.cgi?forum=Forum9&topic;=005516")What about stories?(/url)), and balanced the outfits a little (just a little though ;)).
So in case Mike has no more problems, I'd already like to thank you all (special thanks to orcaloverbri9, Belthazar, Zacha Pedro, Arturo, slouch and Aelran) for your help.
I attempted to examine the faulty PICT with an hex editor as well as the latest one (working on PCs apparently, I have a Mac), and aside from the fact the first one is actually a PICT with JPEG compression inside, which spawned my suggestion, while the one that works on PC does not seem to be compressed, I've not been able to spot the critical difference since it's not that. I've only been able to examine the first one found in the plug you uploaded to the addons page and the latest one since all the others (especially the one following my suggestion) were already too much downloaded. Thanks for the thanks, by the way.
Just for the sake of clarity:
It was not the size of the interface pict that was the problem. I first thought this because it was the only noticeable difference between your pict and standard Nova interface picts. The reason it worked after I resized it had to do with exporting the pict as a bitmap, then re-importing it. Afterwards, I resized it back to the original 'one pixel bigger' and it still worked.
The issue seems to be compression type, as ZP pointed out, not 'one pixel too big'.
Also, the intf resource was not a problem, just the related pict.
So, v1.1 of the plug-in has been submitted to pipeline and I just hope I didn't forget the e-mail address (can't remember if I did or not ).
There will be separate PC and Mac versions. I hope the PC one works now (I just edited the version that seems to work for you guys) I guess we'll just have to wait & see (fingers crossed )
BTW: (I'll also mention it here ) If response is good enough for Arpia v1.1, who knows, I might consider making a bigger plug with a bigger story, universe and course of things on basis of the current Anti-Raider and Pirate Intelligence Agency story.
Well, that's up to you guys too
EDIT: rats, I always seem to forget something lately. Sorry pipeline, sorry guys. This time I forgot to fix two minor ship details

PC Nova appears to be quite substandard compared to the Mac version. Not suprising: Matt Burch and ATMOS had nothing to do with it.
In some ways I wish I had a PC just so I could have helped troubleshoot PC Nova, but from what I've heard it probably wouldn't have helped.
best always,
Dave @ ATMOS

Here's a quick and dirty solution if you can't get a fixed version of the plugin (that trustclip.com just wouldn't hand it over to me possibly because it was over quota as one feedback suggested) and can't export and re-import the offending pict in your version of EVNEW (so there is a version out that can? sheepish grin
1.) open the plugin in EVNEW 2.) open the intf resource (there is only one: #135) 3.) change the last value ("Background") from 707 to 700
This will override the plug's call for the offending graphic that always crashes Win-EVN. The regular EVN status bar graphic will continue to be used instead. Worked for me when I tried it. (admittedly, I also deleted the volatile graphic for good measure, but that should be unnecessary -- It's a pity since it's pretty... but deadly.
Black Hole
P.S.: Values 701 to 706 (other government's status bars in EVN) should also work as a 707 override. Enjoy!
