Let's say someone was planning on putting cutscenes in their plugin. Would this person want to put them right into the main download, or as an optional download alongside the plug? Second, about what screen size would be good? I don't want them to be too small, because then you wouldn't be able to see stuff, but if they're too big I might as well distribute the plug on CDs... Finally, what about detail level? Would the artits be castrated if he sucked at making figures of people?

I thought about putting cutscenes in mine, using charcoal and pencil drawings/animations that my wife was going to do, but I didn't have enough people to get voices for everyone. I would like to see someone use this feature one day.

I thought about having movies in my plug-in. For the one in development right now, I was planning to make 2 downloads, the first one being a full package having extra stuff, and the second one being the just basic version.

I've found in my experiments that 320x240 in a good codec looks fairly nice with Nova's 2x multiplier turned on. If you wanted to go really overboard, you could do a straight 640x480 (or even 864x480 for that touch of widescreen).

1:That depends on the lenght and quality of the cut scenes. 2:320 X 240 is pretty good. And if you use sorenson 3 as compression you´ll get 30 seconds of video on 5mb. 640 x 480 is also good. But then you´ll get some huge files. 3: No.. I kind of like the ares cut scenes.

If it's just for eye-candy, I'd make it separate and be sure to explain that they're optional. If they're integral to the advancement of the plot, I'd make them a separate file, but explain that you won't be able to finish the story without them.

Make them the same size as the gambling/race movies. They're 256x128, and they look fine. Plus, that way they'll be small.

Exactly what I was going to suggest. Even down to the widescreen bit. Personally, I had always planned to use 432x240, or something similar.
Furthermore, at such a small size of a movie, with mpeg 4 compression, movies still look damned good, and are quite small.

As we're into the matter of compression, only use codecs that you know the user can see, i.e. his version of Quick Time can handle. For instance my iMac with 9.2.2 has a QT high enough to play Nova but when I attempted to see (url="http://"http://www.redvsblue.com/appleswitch.shtml")http://www.redvsblue...pleswitch.shtml(/url) I realised it couldn't recognise the codec (Sorenson 3, if I'm not mistaken).
I still think they should be seperate, unless they are a damn critical component to the plug.

This movie is sorenson 3...Can you really not see it..? Does anyone know any other good codecs...? Sorenson video is bleh, at least in my tests. Mpeg 4 is good, but i don´t know how compatible it is..
Can't tell - I'm on my iBook 10.2.8 right now, on which I'm able to view it (and on which I viewed the RvsB movie, for that matter).
