This morning I opened Nova for the first time in months and played the Vell-os story line. However I remembered why I hadn't played in a while- Nova's far too easy. So I looked up my copy of Nova Tools to do some ship editing, and lo and behold, OS X thinks it's a document, it dosen't even think it's a classic application. What's goin' on? Has this ever happened to anyone else?

What do you mean? NovaTools is a ResEdit file that is installed in the ResEdit prefs, it's just an extension for ResEdit. What are you doing?

I meant ResEdit, I re-named the folder Nova Tools.

ResEdit runs terribly in OSX. Reboot in classic. Should fix everything.

It isntthat bad in OS X - There are only some crashes of ResEdit from time to time but I got them in OS 9 too as I made plugs for EV and EVO years ago.

My point is that I don't want to reboot in to 9 just to fix some things, then go back in to X to play Nova.
Depends, as far as I've seen, ResEdit worked well for me in OSX's classic mode (though my main plugdev machine runs OS9).
Dunno what your problem can be, FB, but I suspect it's not just because it's ResEdit; it could have happened to other Classic apps so... maybe ask at Just Tech?

Thanks Ever'body I appreciate it.
Umm...Nova runs in OS 9. Why would you reboot into OS X to play? That makes no sense whatsoever.

I have to reboot into X to play Nova! For some reason that I'm not all that concerned with fixing (and I've tried) my regestration code won't work with Classic. The original one that I had will but when I enter that so I can run it under 9 it cancels my OSX regestration code and vice-versa. So I just leave it in X where it loads infinately faster.
And I almost wish that my copy of SuperResEdit crashed like everyone elses' so I could troubleshoot it. It never does, with 400 meg of ram allocated (which I've heard that you're never supposed to do?).
400 megs... Are you sure you don't mean 400K? That is a ludicrous amount... I've only got 72000K allocated. That may be part of the problem right there.
As for the reg code, have you tried sending to lostcodes@ambrosiasw.com, and getting a new reg code, and updating both 9 and X with it?
Lastly, have you tried correcting permissions on your disk? Open up disk utility, and click repair disk.

No, my 8500 has 480 megs of ram. I give ResEdit 400 of it. It's rock solid, especially when compared to either the classic or X version of either Mission Computer or EVONE. For some reason it only ever crashes when I open the actual Nova Graphics files, specifically the ones for the intro screen. So I don't look at them.
SpacePirate, thanks for the suggestion, I'll get on that.
Nova loads much longer in OS9 than it does in OSX. Flamingblade, did I understand you correctly, you renamed the application ResEdit to NovaTools? And now it thinks it is a file. Have you tried to open it? Sometimes programs and files loose their icons under OsX. Classic programs are prone to that. Perhaps the app is corrupted, in that case you should check if it still works under Os9.

Who in gods name would want to run OS 9 any more, at all, Classic is like pulling teeth, I use OS X or XP over Mac OS 9 any day of the week... Although ResEdit works fine for me, it runs on 16000K of RAM (It needs that much looking at multiple images).

I'm running OS 9 right now. Why? because my OS X disk is dead. Also, my point was that it was completely unnecessary to boot into OS X just to play Nova, he could play it right in OS 9, which is exactly what I've been doing the past few days.
