All right, before you yell at me for posting a well worn topic, let me tell you why the dozen or so others are useless to me. 1. Most are old so links and people's homepages don't work. 2. They don't make sense. 3. none of them are explicit on how to make sprites. 4.They don't apply to making sprites in Cinema 4D So, on to my topic. I have been making ships in C4D as you might know if you hang around the EV Gallery, but now that I can make ships for plugins I don't know how to make them sprites. All I knoe is it has something to do with Quicktime. Also, any advice on how to use Nova Tools (I just started using it a week or two ago) would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Flamingblade

This isn't specific for C4D, but it should apply.
-Position your camera at 45 degrees to the rear of your target ship. With the camera's target as the ship.
-Make a movie, starting with your first frame with the ship rotated 0 degrees, second frame rotated 10 degrees, 19th frame rotated 180 degrees, and the 36th frame at 350 degrees. (This is where you will have to either know how C4D's moviemaking properties work, or have someone with C4D explain more in depth)
-run the movie through the novatools "movies to sprite" program.
Load your images into resedit and do whatever.

Thanks Skyfox, I'll try it
The movie-to-sprite program should give you something like that: Afterwards, it's usual practice to encode it in Rle's using EnRle (in the NovaTools package too).

Tha'd be great if you could, I'd love it.
This tutorial is made by the assumption that you want the same look on your shis as in EV NOVA.
1. You have the point you want your ship to rotate around on spot 0.0.0 in C4D
2. Change your view to isometric. In the camera menu.
2b. Add a Distant light with hard shadows at -1000 , 500 , 1000 Add a distant light with no shadows at 1000 , 500 , -1000
I´m not really sure of this as I got the light setup from Artanis.
3. Make sure you ship has the back towards the camera. If not rotate it (most likely -45 or 135 degrees). If this doesn´t work you´ll have to figure this out on your own.
4. Select your ship and go into the Timeline window (Timeline in the Window menu). Make sure you´re on fram 0, Hit F9. Now move the blue line to frame 35 and hit F9 again.
5. Now you have two editable frames. Open the "rotation H" text. And select the black spot that appears. This is the H rotation value of your ship. Change the value of the last frame by -350 degrees. If the value originally is -45 it should read -395 when you´re finished.
6. Now that you have finished animating the ship, you´ll have to render it. Open the rendering options. Set the size to 100 X 100 This is a medium sized ship.( you´ll have to render 200 X 200 if you want to LASIK). LASIK is a technique that preserve details at small resoulutions. I won´t explain it here. Render from frame 0-35.
Under save chose quicktime movie and a path to somwhere.
7. Now we have finished in C4D and can move onto Novatools. If you haven´t already download the "m2s" application.. DO IT. Drop your movie onto m2s. This will create two pict file. One Color and one mask.
8. Now open Resedit with Novatools. Open a plugin you have downloaded and delete it´s content. Remember to do a backup if it´s an important one. (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/jonaswaage/filesharing5.html")http://homepage.mac....lesharing5.html(/url) have some plugs.
9. Hit Cmd-K(create new resource) and scroll down the list until you find PICT. Add a PICT resource. Paste Both the color and mask image into the PICT resource.
Give them ID´s 2001 and 2002 by hitting Cmd I.
10. Create another resource. This time a shän resource. Give it ID 422 And a name. Add the IDs in Baseimage and Basemask fields.
Frameprset is 36 Basesetcount is 1 BaseXSize 100 BaseYSize 100
11. Add a new resource. this time a Ship resource. Give it ID 422 the same as the Shän. Give it the same name too.
add these values to your ship.
12.Now you´ll need the application ENrle. Drop you plugin onto it. Now it´s important that you gave the shän or ship resource a name. Or the files Enrle produce won´t show up. They are there but i won´t explain how to get them. Just give the resources a NAME.
13. Open the resources Enrle created and copy paste their content into your plug. Delete the PICT resource as it is no longer needed.
Open nova, create a New pilot. On the first planet with a shipyard you should be able to buy your ship.
Please correct me anyone if there is something plain out wrong or something missing.
Feel free to contact me if you get any problems.
Jonas.

You probably want the second distant light to be below 25% brightness.

Can you see the pictures..? Or did you just not mention. I can´t see them and i can´t figure out why.
Sorry, no need, i fixed it.. Can´t figure what wendt wrong though. ------------------ And then there were silence.................
Thanks Mr. Waage, I'll do that once I'm home. I don't have nova tools on this computer.
Well, there's always MakeSpďn - an easy to use program. I prefer it over the P2S or M2S because it's faster.
I don't understand why most people render isometric views as it is without perspective. It creates the optical illusion that ship parts shrink and grow during rotation.
If you want to use normal perspective view, set the camera to position 0/0/0, zoom to 36 (standard) and rotation to 180/-45/0. Then move the camera backwards (don't zoom!) until the whole ship is visible.
BTW, Jonas, why use timeline in a simple animation like turning around? You can do this much faster with the slider.
------------------ It is interesting that well-protected secrets and complicated puzzles are often solved faster than easy ones. Why? Because the better a secret is protected and the more complicated a puzzle is, the more thinkers it attracts. - me (url="http://"http://starlightdev.freewebpage.org")STARLIGHT DEVELOPMENT(/url)

1: Isometric because it´s what it think is used in nova. Don´t quote me on it though. 2: Timeline is better when you want to create banking, animations etc.. and it´s easily backwards editable if you screw up. It´s also more accurate. I find it one of the best features of C4D.
And I thought i´ll give a small extra C4D lesson while i were at it..
