This is the sequel to my last topic full of questions and problems. Exept here I only have questions.
question 1:Is there any way to duplicate the behavior of the Destroyers in nova on the EVO engine.
question 2:before I ever played nova I had a large number of collective ideas for my TC. Now I've played nova and discovered that my TC will have a number of things that look like totall ripoffs of nova ideas and outfits. Such as a quad turret designed for anti fighter movements. Light, middle, and heavy versions of the main cannon. A weapon called a Blaster (no relation to the pyrogenisis compound Blaster exept in name) and a government called the Federation. I'm wondering if people will mind this, or is it Ok if there are a few things like this.
question 3: What is the best way to implement classes into EVO? Already I have ideas that certain ships will have several classes.
question 4, the ultimate question: should I just skip all this bending and hacking of the older EVO engine and make this TC for Nova instead? Keep in mind that I have no experiance, and that my graphics, as of yet, have not reached a Nova quality level. I'm sure that I can eventually overcome these problems, but even then I've already done half the universe, half the ship data, about 12-20% of the graphics, and tons of outfit and desc work all in EVO. And as of yet I do not believe that there is a reliable porting program. So I want the opinion of the people who will be playing my work. Should I change to nova?
------------------ Cmon people, the (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number;=20&SUBMIT;=Go")Chronicles(/url) are worth looking at. I love Frigates, as is easily seen:(url="http://"http://www.dabie.k-ow.net/~glasskids/EV_Frigates_page.html")EV Frigates(/url).
Make it for Nova. Story is far more important than graphics; if they 'sucked' people who've seen EVN will think they 'suck' no matter whether you place them in the EVO or the EVN engine, and besides you have a far larger target audience. And nobody really has the right to complain- it's not like you forced them to play your TC anyways.

Thanks for the opinion.
I think personally that my stuff is better than much that was in EVO. The texturing is simple on my end, but for some reason they look really good. But my models are nothing compared to much of the stuff on the gallery though. The most complicated ship I've made yet is my Federation destroyer, and it really can't claim to have much detail. An interesting fact is that my Federation of Planets government has ships that look alot like Sephil Saga jovian ships.
I still really need to know if people will mind if my TC has alot of seemingly stolen material from nova.
IMHO do what you're going to do and life will go on. I've been working on my TC for 2.5 years only to discover that someone else has initiated a far less ambitious project (though looks a lot better graphically!) of the same name... It's far too late for me to go back and change thousands of references to one word. And if you think about it, how many different SciFi works have Federations and Blasters? Many many. Yours will just be in more illustrious company, that's all.
Plus the TC of yours should be for Nova, for the express reason that it is the newest version of the Escape Velocity series, with the broadest distrobution, and although Override was good I am almost positive that not many people download it anymore especially when Nova is avalible. Anyway...

Ok, before I get started on redoing everything I've done so far (oh boy) i want to know a couple of things so I wont spend a whole day trying to do something that can't be done.
My first idea is that of a point defence missile turret. Say a small rocket that is fired at an incoming missile from a turret. Here is the thing. I want the rocket to be fired as soon as the missile it is supposed to hit comes in range. I also want only one to be fired. Is this possible?
And the second is, how are all the really cool effects, such as the customizable shipyard, done?

You could play with the reload times a bit to get that effect, but I think that's about all that you can do
------------------
What do you mean by only one rocket to be fired? One rocket per missile? One rocket at a time? Because you can do the second with a flag in the weap resource.
Flags3 0x0004 Firing ship can't fire another shot of this type until the previous one expires or hits something.
One rocket per missle, and you'd probably have to set the reload to the same number as the count of the rocket, have the rocket instakill all missiles, and make sure most missiles will hit the ship if it misses... That's my best idea.

IIRC, there's a flag for only one shot being able to be fired at a time.
As in the shipyard pic? Or outfit pic? You need to take the index number of the ship/outfit (i.e. its resource number-128) and then add a certain figure to work out the resource Id you need to give the custom pic. If you check the Nova files, you should be able to see what the right number is. I can't remember off hand, unfortunately.

No no, perhaps I said it wrong. I meant the "Build your own ship" buisness. In the DoG governments section it is mentioned that a certain company produces ships that can come according to your specs. Or something like that.
thanks for the other information, it should come in handy. My next question is, what is the best way, if there is one, to port an EVO plug to nova? I'd really hate to have to do everything I've done so far all over again.

Ah, I see. A combination of barebone ships with most stats near zero, lots of outfits for different engines, shields, etc. and judicious use of contribute/require bits or other ncbs to limit what items can be fitted to which ships would be one way of doing it.
Years ago I used to convert EVC plugs for EVO by simply copying the resources in resEdit, then cleaning up. The resource types were close enough that most of the time there wouldn't be too much that needed fixing. The difference may be a bit too much for that simple method now though.

I think EVONE can do some basic plug porting but you will need to go through and check everything afterwards.

Hmmm, that sounds just like my frame idea. Oh well.
I tried porting the Reb IDA to evo using that method, but I got a mess. What I really need are my systems and spobs, I've done more than half of the universe and I'd really hate to have to do it all over again. I think I'll try EVONE, link anyone?
EVONE can be found here: (url="http://"http://www.ariossoftware.com/products/moreinfo.php?prod=1")http://www.ariossoft...info.php?prod=1(/url) Personally, I like MC better for non-galaxy stuff because it has better bible notes. But EVONE has a galaxy editor that actually works in OS X. I don't know if it actually would help convert something from EVO to EVN, or vise versa...
