Thunderforge's Ranger in DiD

Thunderforge, you had me concerned that a Ranger would not be able to complete one quest concerning a couple of nearsighted Elite Guards so I just did a test. I went to the spot you were having trouble with, using a level 22 Ranger with strength of 28 and Wolf Claws. I had enough herbs in inventory to cast poison an number of times and some Lavunith powder already mixed.

When they spot you from the other side of the wall they do get kind of hyper, so I slowed them down with the Lavunith powder and threw poison at them from the other side of the wall. The Wolf Claws are long enough to get in some good hits without their blades harming you if you don't stand too close to the wall yourself. I used six Lavunith powders, cast poison 27 times and finally killed them both without taking a hit. It's tough, but it can be done. I hope this helps you or others. ~RD

Thank you very much Rubber Ducky. I have not tried your strategies yet (I've been busy). You really did not have to make your own topic about it. Thank you for the info, by the way. I never thought of using the powders...

Also, I noticed that the Elven Bow of Destruction only did one damage per hit to the troll gaurds (I tried shooting at them over the trap so that they couldn't get to me). Do you think that this is a major problem, or do you think that it's fine the way it is?

Clones are people two.
If UPS and Fed-Ex merged, would they be Fed-Up?
A man who's out to save Gidolan Keep, flies an Auroran ship, and hacks into computers to keep the bricks from falling past the line of destiny? Yep, that's me!

Edit: Sorry I clicked the wrong thing first.

If a creature has sufficient defense, the arrows will only register one damage point. And as to the trap door, the NPCs don't fall down when they go over it, only the hero will. So don't rely on them not getting to you.

I've done this with a ranger, its hard if you attack them straight on but there is a way to do it.

your on the right track with my idea thunderforge but you also need to use the Great Bow of Vyro since it fires arrows automatically at targets (and I've found it to be much better then the elven bow of destruction with the two arrows combined doing more damage then it on average) its much easier to aim at them from when you first see them through the walls below. Just keep shooting when your near the walls and the gaurds will eventually try to go at you directly but can't get through the walls, then once they get hyper just keep shooting until they both die and THEN go tell jimmy to disable the trap.

I suppose it could be considered cheating but I'd like to call it "creative" 😛

You are such an effective and ever so cleverly skilled Ranger, Ducky swoons....

just laughing, and laughing

Seriously...I always forget to use my mage's and ranger's potions and magic when fighting...I guess I'm just used to smacking them all down instead of "thinking" like a real ranger or mage would do!! And I'm really more of a thinker in r/t than a fighter...go figure!!! Good Job!! (Actually...I'd have to go back and write down everything I did during a fight...I'd never remember everything I threw at them...just the end result!)

MD~ 😄

Really? They don't seem to go after me, they just walk around in circles, but stop about where the trap door is. I think that I will try your strategy Rzrwd. And RD, would a swordsman have trouble with this part? He can't use bows, or use potions. You could try the thing guessing on how long your weapons is compared theirs, but that's almost impossible!

The way Coldstone works is that a tile has an event linked to it which happens when the hero reaches it - in this case, the trap door. There will be nothing happen if an NPC crosses that tile. The reason that they mill around and don't follow you is that their line of sight is set at 2 or 3 meaning that if you get 2 or 3 (I don't remember which) tiles away from them they can't see you any more and the game engine sends them back to their "home" tile.

I did this so that they would not be able to charge at a player who was going through Troll Sentril the first time before he had any knowledge of Ratznests closet. Their "eyesight" does not go as far as the trap door, nor does their "idle range" extend that far.

Swordsmen usually have greater strength and stronger weapons than a Ranger would. Some players of any class are going to have trouble with them. Not all trolls are created equal, and these two were hand-picked by Ratznest because of their superior brutesmanship if I may coin a word.

Okay, I killed the guards easily with the Great Bow of Vyro. However, when I go back to Jimmy, talk to him, then run back to he storage room, the trap door is always there. It takes me about 30 seconds to get from Jimmy to the room (and it takes even less if I use a Molespider potion). Yet the trap is still there. Jimmy says it will reset in a few minutes but, it should reset in under 30 seconds should it?

Make sure you have a version which fixes a bug in 'Troll Sentril' which you can download most quickly (url="http://"http://www.evula.org/rduck/damselsV1.1.1.sit")here.(/url) I hope that fixes it for you. You'll end up in the caverns anyway, but the Hag should have something different to say now. I am making a assumption that you have carried a gift to Jimmy at this point. ~RD

a gift to jimmy? maybe that is what i'm not doing but what is it that he needs I don't remember getting the message to give him anything I did pick up the tip in the first few minutes of the game that's how I found out about the signs I have the tip the shank the pommel stone and two others I can't think of right now I started this one from scratch and now if I wanted I could finish the basic's Lvl 24, the gaurdian is as good as finished if I so desire, how about a tip on jimmy again I thank you rd a good plug 🙂

Ok, first thing to check when you don't know what's next is your quest scroll. It is a little difficult for me to know exactly where you are in the game from what you have said. I suspect that you have to go meet the Hag. She will want to barter for information. Then it's off to rescue princess three. If you survive, she'll want you to deliver a gift to Jimmy. I think that's as far as we go for now. ~RD

As the Hag said, due west. That's about as straight west as you can go. ~RD
