Specifically, while all speeds in Nova seem to be slower overall, it uses your computer's speed, so speed varies, whereas Override has a slider to adjust the speed to its standards. Nova's is more compatible, but more annoying across different computers.

A good ballpark conversion is that EVO speed x2 = EVN speed. (Check out the EVO conversion for EVN as an example.)

Why do you want to port Nova to EVO? It will just be an inferior (and most likely broken) version. Why would anyone want to play it unless they were trying to avoid paying for Nova?
If I were you I'd email andrew about this first.

Thanks for all the help guys. I do still need to know if there are alot of changes between Nova version 106, and 107.
In answer to the quoted question:I'm doing this for my own experiance and enjoyment. It would be useless for trying to avoid paying for nova because the mission strings will not go farther than the unregistered cutoff.
I don't think andrew likes being emailed, I think he doesn't even answer them, but I'll try. (I wonder how many fan emails he getts a day)

Well if it's just for experience, don't release it. If you do even a portion of Nova, you are just making it easier for somebody else to complete the port.
As for andrew getting a lot of email, that is very true. However, I'm not sure who else would be better to contact on an issue as potentially sticky as this is. If you never release it, then you wouldn't have to try of course.

True, I hadn't thought of that.
It would be stupid to do all of nova, the quality would be so bad on the later missions that it's not worth it. Already I'm looking at the data files and thinking, "I cant' do that, It'll have to go. That mission is impossible with classic, good bye. Uh oh, that will have to be simplified."
The list of things that will have to be slimmed down goes on and on. Some things can be made possible with engine tweaking though.
Some months ago, I began work on a port of Nova to the Ares engine, essentially making a Nova MP. However, due to inadequacies in the Ares graphics engine, none of the ships with 64 frames worked, so I scrapped the project. Most of them looked pretty bad anyway due to the difference in supported colors, which I'm thinking might be applicable to you.

Do you mean that Ares required 64 or that some nova ships are 64?

He means 72. Some of the larger, slower NOVA ships use 72 frames per rotation to make it look smoother when turning.

There are some with 64 too, are there not? The 72s are easy to fix – just delete every other frame

Oh... my bad
I guess it was 72. However many frames the Raven, Auroran Carrier, and those ones like that had. The problem was that when you put in the graphics with Hera, you can enter the number of columns and the number of total frames just fine, but you have to then enter a number into a field that tells Ares how to rotate the object. I don't remember how you arrive at the number that must be entered, but the engine does not support anything but whole numbers, no decimals. Unfortunately, the number you get for those larger ships has a decimal place. We (my brother and I) decided to scrap the project mostly because the graphics engine made the ships look like crap, and because the engine was far too nonintuitive.
What I was saying with regard to your project is that the EVO engine probaby only supports 8 bit graphics (I think) and so Nova's 16 bit ships wouldn't look too great.

Yeah, I agree, but ATMOS did make 256 optimized sprites for the RL8s if I remember correctly... Obviously they look way inferior to the thousands of colour sprites of NOVA
Sigh It seems nobody can rmember anything these days...
EVO uses 8-bit graphics. Only.
ATMOS made rle8s for a reason. I don't know what made you think you would have to use rleDs, but you don't.

this is going to be harder than I thought. I knew that nova used 16 bit graphics, however that shouldn't be a problem since I believe that photoshop can lower them to 8 bit.
I think you've missed the point here. The rle8s are 8-bit. All of the Nova sprites come in both rleD and rle8. If you just use the rle8s rather than the rleDs then you won't have any problems.

If that was referring to me, then I do remember that. I was stating that I though ATMOS had optimized the rle8's so that they look ok in 256...

I see, thats why the has rle 8. does DeRle do both of them?
It can do either.
