That's for sure.
Someone mentioned a program called Blender here a while ago, but I don't remember much about it. I think it might be free though, possibly.

Wings 3D is free and pretty easy to use, plus it's for Mac, PC, and Linux. Download it from (url="http://"http://www.wings3d.com/")http://www.wings3d.com/(/url) There are some tutorials there too.

The question of which graphics program to use hass been asked and asked and asked and asked on this board. Just running a search would reveal at a conservative guess, 81 different threads.
However, just to humor you, listed for the most part in ascending price (or estimated price in USD):
(url="http://"http://www.povray.org")POV-Ray(/url) (free), (url="http://"http://www.wings3d.com")Wings 3D(/url) (free), (url="http://"http://www.blender3d.org")Blender(/url) (free), (url="http://"http://www.alias.com")Alias Maya 5.0 Personal Learning Edition(/url) (free - not full featured w/ watermarks), (url="http://"http://www.softimage.com") Softimage XSI Experience(/url) ($19.95 - not full featured w/ less obtrusive watermarks than PLE), (url="http://"http://www.eovia.com/home.jsp")Eovia Carrara Studio 3(/url) ($399), (url="http://"http://www.maxon-computer.com/")Maxon Cinema 4D 8.5(/url) ($595), (url="http://"http://www.strata.com")Strata 3DPro 3.9(/url) ($695), (url="http://"http://www.eovia.com/home.jsp")Eovia Amapi 7 Pro(/url) ($799), (url="http://"http://www.rhino3d.com")Rhinoceros 3.0(/url) ($895), (url="http://"http://www.softimage.com")Softimage 3D 4.0(/url) ($1495), (url="http://"http://www.newtek.com")Newtek Lightwave 3D 7.5 - soon to be 8.0(/url) ($1595), (url="http://"http://www.softimage.com")Softimage XSI(/url) (no price quoted, but probably more expensive than Lightwave), (url="http://"http://www.alias.com")Alias Maya Complete 5.0(/url) ($1999), (url="http://"http://www.discreet.com")Discreet 3D Studio Max 6(/url) ($3145), (url="http://"http://www.alias.com")Alias Maya Unlimited 5.0(/url) ($6999)
That's about all I can think of for right now. Note that Alias Maya 5.0 Personal Learning Edition and Softimage XSI Experience are watered down (or in many cases, crippled) versions of the full packages. Also, be aware that the most expensive program is not necessarily the best program, especially if it cannot do the job that you specifically bought it for. On the image gallery, Wings 3D, Strata, Infini-D (not for PC, but is a precursor to Carrara), Cinema 4D, Strata 3D, and Lightwave are the most popular programs. Lightwave is the program that ATMOS used to make EV Nova, and is my personal favorite program both as a modeler and as a still renderer. What is a renderer, you ask? After you finish making your 3D model, the only way you can output it as an image is through a process called rendering. A good renderer can with the right ingredients make photorealistic images.. Wings 3D, while gaining popularity, does not come bundled with a renderer and requires another program (POV-Ray and Strata are two preferred renderers) to render final images.
As I forgot to mention before, if you're a student, these programs can be significantly less expensive.

If you're on a Mac, you have the following options (if anyone wants to add to this list, go ahead):
Blender: free, quite good, but has the most godawful interface.
Strata 3D: Can easily be downloaded for free. Ewan/Jules was including Prefs files so that it thought you were registered (hehe...my copy still says "Ewan Crossan" :)). I have them, so I suppose I could put them up (once I find out which ones they are...) until he gets a chance to (w00t! Go "digital" (f*cking marketing these days...sheesh) cable! :D). (url="http://"ftp://free.digitalriver.com/pub/strata3/Strata3D_302_Installer.sit")Linkage(/url) (NOTE: FTP link)
Mechanisto: Free, but a little difficult to use. I think.
Infini-D: Someone had their version on the internet somewhere. I think their ASW username started with "Captain" (A: not that that narrows it down much... B: No, it wasn't CS). Try searching for infini-d on the EVDC,
That's all I can think of right now. Now, for WIndows...you're on your own. Strata 3D 3.0.5 is available, but I'm not going to get a link, it's not worth it.
(Jules: Just wondering...did you know about (url="http://"http://members.shaw.ca/fearra/strata.html")this(/url)?

I use Strata Vision, it has a really powerfull modeling tool that I can use to do almost anything. I got it free off a mac addict CD, but I don't know if it is legal to distribute it.
------------------ Cmon people, the (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number;=20&SUBMIT;=Go")Chronicles(/url) are worth looking at.
I would recommend getting Wings 3D for modelling. Its really easy to use (providing you have a 3 button scroll wheel mouse) and can produce extremely cool results.
Some things I am working on at the moment in Wings: (url="http://"http://www.macfire.net/fe/starcraft-1.jpg")Starcraft Wraith(/url) (url="http://"http://www.macfire.net/fe/views.jpg")Final Eclipse (TC) Mars Frigate(/url)
The down side about using Wings is tat it has no texturing or rendering capabilities. The images I posted above were both textured and rendered in Strata 3D (textures made in Fireworks and Photoshop).
I used to offer a free version of Strata for download from my site but after reading a discussion on the stratacafe, I have decided to remove this service. Sorry :frown:

About the Fearra's site, no. I did know fearra had a site that has strata things on it, but I was unaware that I was actually linked to on it

Jules, what is the scroll wheel used for? Is it to rotate your view? See, I have a 3 buttoned mouse but no scroll wheel. If the scroll wheels really useful I'll have to dig out my old scroll-wheel mouse.

Well, mouse click 3 (which for me is pressing the scroll wheel) allows you to rotate the view. The scroll wheel itself zooms in and out. As far as Im concerned, its pretty much essential for using Wings.

w00t.
Alright.
Heh. You might want to let them know that you know longer have Strata available for download.

Yeh, I can rotate it, But I haven't been able to zoom in or out, though there might be a keyboard shortcut for it somewhere. I'll investigate further.
