I was wondering, can nova handle invisable files? Im thinking about doing that so only people with resedit can edit them.

Why would you ever want to do this?! Even if you can give an answer to that, you must also consider "how would a user work with them, install them, etc?". If a user would have difficulty installing and uninstalling it, dont do it. Could they be brought to a PC without ill effects? If not, dont do it. Would this make the plugin any better for the users? If not, dont do it. -A"dont do it"z

So most people cant make cheats.

To install them, they rename their plugin folder Nova Plugins OLD and copy mine into their nova folder.

I have no clue if it can because i dont own a PC (thank god).

Yes. They cant make a cheat to make a weapon Uber powerful and take all the fun out of it.

So what, I don't cheat on plug-ins that I download, and I doubt many people do (though I haven't really downloaded any plugins since the EV:C days); if someone wants to make a cheat and ruin their fun let them, who cares. This idea would be at the least confusing and at the worst, quite painful for all involved. So just don't do it; it is by no means a good idea. Joe

Ok.
Well, just so you know (for future reference), to make a file invisible, go to RES Edit's "verify file/folder info" and change the name from "xxx" to ".xxx". Don't do this for folder though, or you won't be able to get it back (at least using RES Edit, you won't).

That only works on OS X, not OS 9.*NIX uses a . at the start of the file name to denote a hidden file, OS 9 (and X on HFS+ volumes) uses an HFS+ metadata flag to indicate invisibility. ResEdit can set this flag, but the Finder can't.

Ive tried it and they work with nova perfectly. I even made Ship Variants invisable.

The only plug files I can imagine wanting to make invisible are QuickTime movies -- in Frozen Heart, it was just too tempting to open those up by themselves, thus spoiling the surprise when they were activated by missions. Has anyone checked whether Nova can access hidden .mov files, in either OS 9 or OS X? I doubt I'll get a chance to check for myself tonight.

The first thing I do with plugs is open them up and see if they have any good graphics, if they do I take them out of that plugin and put them in the original data files. Then just read the story line

Thats what i want to stop.
How are you going to get invisible files into the plugins folder? Sure, you can do it, simply by modifying the name or flags in your plugins folder, but when someone downloads it, either it's visible and they can move it or it's invisible and they have no clue where it is. The latter leaves the problem — how does it install itself? Is there some sort of applescript or something that will automatically move the appropriate files into the plugins folder?

In other words, you install the folder as a whole, and the invisible files inside the folder come along with it.
