Quicktime VR?

Just wondering: are Quicktime VR movies handled like regular Quicktime movies (i.e. does Nova support them?)? I ask because it would be an awesome feature to have...just think: zooming around, looking all over a spaceship...

Oh, and if I do this, it will be a seperate download for those of us fortunate enough to have Broadband or DSL.

I really don't think so.

They do indeed appear, however the frames are simply played in a loop like a normal quicktime movie would be - there are no controls to zoom and turn the camera and whatnot.

I've wondered about this, but haven't tested it.

I'll report a related bit of info, though: you can ***** url's in QT movies. When you click the movie, your browser opens and takes you to the specified web page. I tried this with from within EVN, using a movie that played at completion of a mission. Sadly, it didn't work -- it would have been great for teaser plugs for TCs with their own web sites. I didn't try with a shipyard movie.

(Edit: Wow -- Did I just get auto-bleeped? I don't remember what I wrote for certain -- it looks like it was probably "inseert." Touchy system! (Can I even say "touchy?"))

You said "embéd", minus the accent. It's an HTML tag that lets you place applets on a web page, and is filtered out because evidently you can accomplish something reasonably malicious with it. I have no idea how, though, since HTML parsing is turned off anyway.

There are a few boards on the site where HTML is on, and word-censors usually have to be system-wide.

To me, it sounds like an Ares feature, a player can zoom on their ship and the area around it. I think that's what he wants. But even so, it would require to modify the game engine itself to support zooming.

No, I meant a Quicktime Virtual Reality movie, which is 3D. Unfortunately, as reported by the second person who posted (not mrxak), it's not handled properly.

Ha! I can say embed. Try to guess how I did (and it has no risk of placing an applet in a HTML-enabled board). Actually, disabling HTML is simply replacing < and > by < and > when you post.

Good, orca, one just needs to check the HTML source to see the e. Actually (but do not tell other folks about that), you can bypass the word censor for all words thataway.

This way, you can also give examples of UBB code: (b)bold text(/b), (i)text in italics(/i) - if you copy and paste these into your post, it will trigger the UBB, but incidentally also if I edit my post or if you reply to it.

**That's right. Dave and I actually discussed this a while back when we were in the planning stages of our project- I think we came to the conclusion that this was a one time a feature or a planned one, but it was scrapped, for whatever reason. (probably lack of perceived use)

Good idea, orca. Too bad it doesn't work, or else I would have smelled a new SS feature...

Matt only references the sections of QuickTime that are required for playing QuickTime movies in mode-less windows. Since QTVR requires window borders for it's controls to hang off, it don't work.

And, indeed, no new features will be added.

Interestingly, I wasn't channelling MCB for that reason... 🙂
