I've been doing a fair bit of this lately, and its pretty simple in Final Cut Pro. As David Arthur mentioned, the important part is having flat, uniform lighting that cuts shadows completely from any direction.

You also need a fairly light colored blue or green screen. Also, make sure none of the subjects are wearing the chosen color, as they will mysteriously dissappear.

After that, its just a matter of applying the filter, and tweaking it until you get the desired results.

Yes, you can include movies in missions. Duh. No offense, but are you just starting or something?

Yes, you can include movies in the shipyard. There's a field at the end of the shïp resource.

You've made a lot mistakes too. Are you just starting also? There's no need for such rhetoric. He's asking for help and not going on telling everyone about how he's going to start a TC.

Dude, you're taking my comments WAY too seriously...

Easy folks. It might not have been the most polite way of giving advice, but I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it.

I actually tried that once. I tried to render EV's ships like how a young child would draw them, but I lost the files in a reformat. It was pretty funny while it lasted.

I didn't mean that the animation footage would pass through iMovie; I only meant that iMovie would be used to input live-action footage into the computer and convert it to a QuickTime movie. A (cheap, hopefully) specifically QuickTime-oriented program would then be used to combine the live-action footage with QT animations produced by a 3D graphics app.

However, doing bluescreening in iMovie in the way you describe can be a whole lot cheaper than buying any version of Final Cut, and that might matter. I didn't do a thorough search for options, but I found this (url="http://"http://www.macworld.com/2002/10/reviews/imovie/")review(/url) of eZedia eZeScreen, a plug that adds bluescreening capabilities to iMovie. It cost $39 in 2002. I wasn't aware of the interlacing-related issues you raise, though. Video isn't something I know a whole lot about, but maybe the quality drop won't matter too much for something that (if it is destined for an EVN plug) is going to end up reduced to something like 320 X 240 pixels or smaller.
