This might end up meaning that Skyblade's Cold Fusion will get lapped by some other bright artist. Still, for the greater good of the community...

All the files that came with the EVO 3D Designs have been converted, thats ships, weapons and outfits. When you open the files, the objects are grouped and not orientated correctly, but thats easy to fix by rotating and ungrouping. They are also very small (compared to the grid) so you might want to scale them up before editing.

Should I put this on the EVO add ons page?

Hope they are of use 🙂

I can't get strata vision 4.0.0 to open these. do you know why? If you don't have a solution could you please do the ones I asked for In DXF?

Is that for all of them? I know there are problems opening certain ones (Scoutship, Cargo Transporter, Lazira, Voinian Supply Ship to name a few), but I dont see why there should be a problem... Have you tried using "open as"? I'll put them in dfx as well regardless. Just remember they will be model only - not even colours will be there...

Are you needing the weapons and outfits as well?

the problem Is that "open as" doesn't have 3Dmf as an option.

By the way I think I will be needing the weapons only and the planets If possible although without the textures they are pretty useless.

Ewan, any chance of getting these for StrataPro 3.9? I can't open these files at all.

They should open fine... I can open them on the 3.9 Pro demo... They're just 3dmf files... Maybe the dfx versions will open once I finish them 🙂

Huh. I can't get 3.9 to recognize them as files it wants to open. Using the Open Files dialogue box has them greyed out, and dragging and dropping the file doesn't work either.

Hrm... try "Open As" set the file type to Strata 3D then select the file. This allows you to try and open any file (doesnt mean it will work, but it will try anyway). If that doesnt work then I dont know whats wrong with it :frown:

That's just it -- I do, and the files are greyed out and unselectable.

Weird... Well, I'll try and get the dfx versions done as soon as possible. I have a few things I need to do first (real life beckons) so it might take a little while. I'll also make a Strata Specific version so you can use that.

Is this with Strata3D Pro 3.9 running as a native app under OS X? If so, try running the program in OS 9. If you can't, try forcing it to run within Classic.

I think Apple has abandoned 3DMF/QT3D; if you want to access these files with your Strata version under OS X you might need to install the (url="http://"http://www.quesa.org/")Quesa(/url) library, which I think I may have first read about (url="http://"http://www.topoi.ch/")here.(/url) (I haven't done this myself, since I haven't completed my own OS migration yet.)

If I'm right about this, you're sorta too up-to-date for your own good. 😄 Strata 3D 3.0.2 can only run in OS X by opening Classic, which seems to let it access the QuickTime 3D extensions in the OS 9 System Folder -- I haven't tried these models, but I can open other 3DMF's just fine!

On another note -- someone mentioned Strata Vision 3d v. 4.0. I've still got that on my hard drive; it's a 1997 program! Its 2000 descendant (Strata 3D 3.0.2) is legally available for free, though tracking down a download link and registration can be difficult. It's a frequent topic on this board, so try a (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/ubb/search.cgi?action=intro&default;=9")search(/url) here if you want it.

That could be it. I got the Quesa libraries installed.

Strata 3D 3.0.2 can be downloaded from my downloads folder of my site: (url="http://"http://el3.northernswamp.com/downloads/strata/")here(/url). Seems that the site is down at the moment, but Im sure Jager will get the server back up shortly.

Using a very difficult and lengthy process, I managed to duplicate the red texture used on the nose of the Blaze cannons.
I needed it for a ship I'm working on. I thought that It might be usefull to somebody. If you want it let me know.

I suppose Jules has forgotten about converting the EVO models to DXF. hint hint, 😉

------------------

Dont think he's forgotten, just hasnt had time, as for the server, its no longer alive... May be a month or three before its working again....

No, I've not forgotten. As Jager said, its a time issue. When I did the original conversion I just used a simple export, with Infini-D converting the splines to mesh with its default settings. For the dfx I am doing the conversion from spline to mesh in Infini-D using higher quality settings. This takes a lot longer though as I first have to locate and convert all the splines.

I've also not had much time to get this done. I recently started a new job after leaving University (until September when I start back again). I get up at 06:30 and get back in at about 18:30. By which time I'm (understandably) rather tired 😛 I've also been trying to get me new site (www.macfire.net) set up and running - there's nothing there at the moment though as I've not complete the site design and content at yet. Once I've got it completed, I will be hosting el3 myself at that domain (probably el3.macfire.net but If I can't get that done, I'll use (url="http://"http://www.macfire.net/el3)")www.macfire.net/el3)(/url). Hopefully I'll be uploading the site by the end of the week, but it depends how quickly I can get the javascript menus sorted out 😛

As far as the designs, they will be done when I get time... I've got other projects on the go that are higher on my priority list. I'll endeavor to get them done as soon as possible, but there are other things that I'm working on (and have been for longer) that I will be concentrating on 🙂

I downloaded Strata long ago (don't remember where). And as a test I imported one of the original EVO models, I didn't have that much trouble. But if there are plans to make Strata models version available for download at the addons, be sure to work out all the bugs. Seems that from this post, this task might be more complicated than it seems.

I suppose someday, someone might make the EVO models available for other 3D programs like Bryce or something.

Well, I'm not the only one making a revamped EVO TC Graphics project. From what I read, the texture of the ships on Cold Fusion was done on Infini-D probably using the built-in features to make the textures, amongst other added modifications. Therefore, it probably wouldn't have taken that long to make the plug-in. Some of those resized ships are freakishly huge, I can only imagine someone playing EVO on a 640x480 resolution being overwhelmed when confronting a Voinian dreadnaught. At least it's something fresh to see. I have to wonder why they didn't use the other versions of the ships.

I too will be resizing the ship size near it's ideal proportions, however, it won't be that drastic. Even if I decide resize the exact measurments like Cold Fusion, it would take forever to render seeing as how detailed I've made my ships. My G4 would tell me to F**k off.
