Maya tutorials

I just bought Maya. But I was wondering if someone knew of an easy to use tutorial for beginners.
I already searched in the boards, and on Google.com, but didn't find anything usefull (yet, still looking, but a nice tutorial from a boardmember would be very much appriciated).
Anyone know about some usefull guide?

I can't help you here. However, I do have a question. You bought Maya without trying it out first?

P.S. I hate Maya. Hate hate hate hate hate it. LW is good though.

Consider yourself lucky to be able to afford Maya. We proletarian cannot.

I just downloaded the Maya Learning Edition. While I was on their site, I noticed a number of tutorials available there.

Haven't tried Maya yet, but Blender is obtuse, Cinema 4D demo doesn't let you save, and most of the other programs are either Win-only or don't have demos.

If you don't want it, give it to me.

LightWave is fine, but Maya is more extensible and has superior video/film output. It's also a more advanced renderer which takes far better advantage of multiple processors and multiple machines.

I love LightWave, but Maya is the superior tool.

Gotta agree 100%. Maya is where the power is at, though it would be great if I could get a much more streamlined interface.

The interface very much relies on using a three button mouse, and using it well. It was originally designed for Silicon Graphics machines.

&*#. That was the same problem Blender had.

Hopefully I'll be able to figure it out anyway.....

Do you have to have a three-button mouse?

I do use a 3 button mouse. It is not really the interface, more some of the workflow things, I cant really put my finger on it, I can work fine in the product, it just takes me longer to do many simple things.

I might be able to give you some very basic help, if you still need it. To actually answer your real question, I have no idea where to find tutorials, I've never used one. 🙂 Although I thought it came with some...

------------------

for Non-Organic modelling I definetly prefer Lightwave, but for organic modelling and animation I like Maya (I don't have it, but I used it for a month last summer).

I think I prefer Lightwave's texturing, but maybe that's just because I'm used to it.

edit: whoops, forgot to post my link. This is the site of one of the guys who teaches computer animation at Ringling. This is actually what we did at PreCollege last summer. There's some good stuff to get you started though. (url="http://"http://webspace.ringling.edu/~egavin/pc/pcindex.html")http://webspace.ring...pc/pcindex.html(/url)

Maya has some great organic tools, not least of whitch is real Sub-Ds, though I think both programs could stand to implement features from the other, though I somehow doubt we will ever see real Sub-Ds, or effective vertex and edge tools in LW (that stuff in 8 just won't cut it).

Well thanks for all the help guys, but I've decided to get Cinema 4D. I just got Maya on trial from my Apple dealer (hes a good friend of mine), and I also got Cinema 4D on trial. But I found Cinema 4D to be more "right for me". If you know what I mean.
Cause I still have to go to school and all, so I don't have time to learn Maya very much, but Cinema 4D is for me very easy to use. Even easier then Blender, hehe.
But thinks for all the tips and pros and cons for Maya, maybe someday if I have the time, I will consider buying Maya again. But thats not really for now.

You can run but then you die tired

while were on the topic of tutorials, does anyone have any mission computer tutorials? i could really use one.

------------------
I would if I could, but I cant so I wont

I don't think you really need a tutorial for Missioncomputer. It's quite simple. I think what you need is to read the Nova Bible. That should help you on your way. You can find the Nova Bible in the Documentation folder of Nova.

------------------
You can run but then you die tired

The best way to figure out how to use Mission Computer (or NovaTools) is to just open an existing plug and poke around a bit. That's what I did.

Of course, that was back in the EVO days, when the engine was much simpler. All of Nova's extra options could get a tad confusing, I'd bet.....

------------------

Well mission computer is fairly intuitive as far as I can recall... Just playing around with it, making some crappy cheat plugs and modifications gives you all the experience you need I feel. Plus there's plenty of people here to ask if you hit a wall trying to do something.

I have a question about mechanisto (I figured it'd be better to just ask here than to make a new thread, because this is about 3d apps). Anyway, does anybody know how I can make an indentation in an object? I can't seem to figure this out.
