I remember when I first installed NovaTools. It was all quite confusing.
Well, I'm there again. Somehow, NovaTools isn't installed er something. So I re-downloaded ResEdit and NovaTools for safe measures. Here's what I did to install NovaTools:
installed ResEdit 2.1.3
opened ResEdit Preferences
copy/pasted resources from NovaTools 1.0.0
save/closed ResEdit Preferences
allocated 40MB to ResEdit
opened Nova Data 1
And, just like last time, nothing works. It still looks like the raw data that ResEdit puts out without NovaTools. What's up here?

**You sure you got the right preference file (or the right copy of Res)? Sometimes ResEdit is picky about that. **

It's also a good idea to allocate the memory before installing NovaTools. Do you have multiple users on 9? This may screw some things up, if you are using X.
Try to put (url="http://"http://www.evula.org/infernostudios/downloads/ResEditPreferences.sitx")this file(/url) into the Preferences folder in the System Folder in your root directory.

I assume you ARE restarting ResEdit after you mak the prefs change? Sounds stupid, but that would cause the problem.

Yes to all questions. But I'm not in OS X...
Oh, and, I can't open ResEditPreferences.sitx. Strange. I deleted the 'x' and it just created another of the same file.
I wonder why all the unexplainable bull**** happens to me...
edit: Bomb , by 'correct Preference file', you mean the one labeled in red and titled NovaTools 1.0.0, right? Yes, I did. And I copy/pasted it into Macintosh HD/System Folder/Preferences/ResEdit Preferences.
I don't know why you are having the problems you are seeing, but you can try this: open one copy of the ResEdit application with another copy of resEdit, and paste the NovaTools resources right in there, instead of in the prefs file. It works for me!

You can open it with itself. It just says that doing so is not recommended.

Yeah... You need a newer version of stuffit to decompress that. I re-uploaded it as a standard .sit file, (url="http://"http://www.evula.org/infernostudios/downloads/ResEditPreferences.sit")here(/url). Make sure you put it in your user's preferences folder.

Downloaded and unstuffed. Put it in Preferences folder. No good. It did, however, have the RVEW resource, which I did not have. But no difference did it do.

Crazy. Are you sure you put it in your user's Preferences folder? Or did you put it in the System Folder's Preferences folder? It is supposed to be in the former, if you have Multiple Users turned on.
If so, try deleting the preference, deleting ResEdit, and downloading a (url="http://"http://www.resexcellence.com/resedit.shtml")fresh, new copy(/url) of the application, and use that preference file I supplied. You never know, your app may have become corrupted...
ResEdit why bother changing the menory?

Personally, I wouldn't do that... a program that edits itself... sounds like self brain surgery. Spooky. ResEdit (and we, too) asks you to be prudent because it saves the changes automatically, so should it crash in the middle of a save, it will remain corrupted and undecorruptable. Even if I edit neither a system file nor ResEdit, I always work on copies of files. But I've indeed edited both ResEdit and my sytem (to make it FunEdit saying funny things and my trash be a radioactive container, respectively). Pasting the prefs has always worked well for me. Which system do you have, the space between (I mean, accurately, OS 9.0.4, 9.2.2, something else)?

Goodness! THERE WE GO! WHEEEE! Heh. I knew it was something stupid that was preventing me from doing it. And I now remember that this happened last time.
