I recall Dave/pipeline saying that it was a feature that never worked in the first two games and was removed from Nova entirely, and so the only bug should be that it was in the Bible. If it works, then that's a bug!

Well, last I checked it did (1.0.4). And I don't have 1.0.7, as 1.0.8 is due out relatively soon, and 1.0.6 works well enough. I just don't feel like waiting for it. Beh.
I have never tried putting them in place of ships in dรผde resources. So, I tried in 1.0.6. It didn't work. I also tried in mฤsn resources, and negative dรผde values there kills Nova. However, the fleets in systems did work.
The only thing I should mention is that when you enter a system with fleets set in the dude resource, the fleets are not automatically put in the system. Therefore, you need to wait for some of the other ships to jump out before the fleet will jump in. This can be avoided by making a ship with a 1 armor, no shields, inertialess, relatively fast, with no explosions, and with a cloak to hide it from radar and the screen. You will also need a weapon that fires while cloaked, with invisible ammo, and two governments that hate each other. Make two dudes of the invisible ships (warship type), one with each government, and put them in that system with a relatively high probability. They should kill each other quickly, giving the impression that the system has less ships than there actually were.
If someone wants to verify this in 1.0.7, merely edit one of the systems in Nova, increasing the max ships, and making one of the dรผdes negative. It doesn't matter which one, all you need to do is make sure the probability is relatively high. Now, just sit in that system, and see how often it jumps in.

It is?

Well, Matt fixed the exponential beam stacking, the govt ship color field, and the ionization ProxRadius, so there's bound to be an update sometime soon.
I was just curious where these rumors get started...
(This message has been edited by mrxak (edited 01-08-2004).)
Well, let me rephrase that- "...as a version 1.0.8 is already in development."
Originally posted by SpacePirate: **Well, let me rephrase that- "...as a version 1.0.8 is already in development.";)
Let me start by clearly stating that I know nothing.
OK. Now I'll get down to guesswork.
As far as I know, the idea that there will be a 1.0.8 comes from mburch's Dec. 27 post to this topic,, where he mentioned a few recently reported bugs in past tense, as fixed problems.
When we'll see 1.0.8 is very much an open question as far as I know. Ambrosia might go for a quick turn-around. On the other hand, they may once more try to make this "the last fix ever." If that is really what they want, they might be smart to wait a while to see what else shakes loose in 1.0.7 and perhaps to make sure that they've got a clear mechanism for collecting bug complaints. Heck, Burch sounded like he wasn't even sure whether or not pipeline was an annointed (um) pipeline for bug reports !
To be clear, Matt does say:
Originally posted by mburch: ** Regarding bug reports, Ambrosia handles technical support for the EV games, and the official and proper way to submit them is, and always has been, to send Ambrosia email at help@ambrosiasw.com.
Though he then says he's not sure that stuff sent there is getting processed.

A bit strange. We've been trough seven versions, and Ambrosia will begin to accept bugreport only for the last, 8th version...

I noticed this too... I would like to think that my announcement of the massive beam bug less than a week after 1.0.7 came out helped shock them into realizing "oh crud, mabey Nova does need some work done afterall", but this propably isnt the reason. Lately in the dev-board there have been alot of people wondering where to send bug reports, and now that we have gotten the word that bug-reports are to be sent straight to members of the betalist (because the ambrosia address is a black hole), we finally have a decent method to report bugs. Heck, I've reported or referenced atleast 5 of them in the past week or two, and i know Masamune reported a few. I feel kinda bad for the devteam/mcb - all of a sudden they are getting 8 versions worth of bugreports to deal with! -Az
