Strata 3D 3.0 Rendering help...

When I tell it to render my ship, it goes to like, the 27th frame slowly, then reverses quickly back. Why does it do this?

Have you made sure that you put in the correct angles of rotation in the correct second. (-90 degrees in the 9th second, 180 degrees in the 18th, 90 degrees in the 27th second, and 10 degrees in the 35th second)
I also suggest when spinning a ship, click on the play icon at the top of the project window, so you can see if it spins OK, without having to wait ages for it to render just to find out it hasn't worked.

Sounds to me like you put in the wrong angle for the final angle. Are you using 37 frames with the final set to 0? You should be using 36 and have the last set to -10. There is a tutorial on spinning for Strata (Classic engine only at the moment) on (url="http://"http://www.evula.org/ewan/")my site(/url) that explains step my step what to do πŸ™‚

Failing that, send the file over to me ( (url="http://"mailto:ewanc@mac.com")mailto:ewanc@mac.com(/url)ewanc@mac.com

Thanks. Yes, I'm using 37 with the last at 0 (the instructions in Development FAQ say to...darn them).

edit: Just thought I'd add this. What's with the engine flare tutorial? That's an interesting introduction...

Ah, the tutorial headings. There is a really quite simple solution to this. It follows...

'Alcohol' + 'Tutorial Writing' = (url="http://"http://www.evula.org/ewan/")'Ewan's LairΒ™'(/url) πŸ˜„

You could possibly make the technique you were using work by typing in 360 instead of 0 for the 37th frame, but to be honest, the technique described in my tute is probably easier in the long run (you dont have to keep on typing the range of the render instead just tell it to render all frames) πŸ™‚

(sarcastic) Wow, website designing and alchohol (sp?)...what a GREAT combination!
(not sarcastic) Well, at least it answers my question...yep, it turned out fine doing it that way (except I forgot to change the size...this led to much selecting and cutting and pasting after using m2s...oh well)...although when i was making my ship in ShipWrite, it nudges a pixel to the left at one point...do you think anyone would notice and/or care?

Oh, and by the way, I used one of your textures (I downloaded it from the old lair with Strata, which says Ewan Crossan at startup...hehehe)...oh, how I love it when I don't have to make my own graphics πŸ˜„

Actually, there should be no difference between full rotate on 37 and -10 on 36. Also, when you come to render larger spins - eg, 72 frames, you don't have to rememeber to set the last to 5 degrees.

However, if you are doing this then remember to do the rotates for frame 9, frame 19 and frame 28 before you do the last turn, otherwise Strata may get cross and not like you any more.

Oh, by the way Orc, there's no such thing as Etemology. Entomology is the study of insects, while Etymology is the study of the origins of words. As a former etymologist, I found your confusion ironically amusing, as it's the history of these kind of confusions that are the substance of etymology.

I find it helps reduce the mindless tedium of updating my site from the old design... Besides, its a means to and end and the end result seems to be fine to me - except the spelling error that I missed πŸ˜› Whether or not you find my means to the end appropriate or not I dont care. Alrighty then...

Martin: Strangely enough, it does make a difference...I don't know why, because it doesn't follow my orders to go to the 4th frame at 90Β° (counter-clockwise)...maybe I just did it wrong. Oh well, it doesn't matter all that much at this point.
