Arios SoftWare announces the release of EVONE Public Beta 2.1! EVONE, the Escape Velocity Override Nova Editor, is a complete plugin development environment (PDE) for the Escape Velocity trilogy by Ambrosia Software.
New in This Release In following with EVONE's tradition of providing advanced features when they are first needed, instead of months later, and furthering EVONE's position at the forefront of plugin development, this version includes complete, seamless support for the Windows .rez format, both in reading AND writing. To convert a Windows plug to Mac, simply open it with EVONE. EVONE can almost always auto-sense the plugin type, but if for some reason it can't, simply choose Windows plug from the list of radio buttons presented. While the file is open, edit to your hearts content - let me repeat that the support is seamless. Every single feature and ability works unchanged on both types of plugins. When you are done editing, hit Save to save the plug as a .rez file, maintaining its Windows format, or select Save As->Macintosh to convert the plug. Converting from Mac to Windows is as easy as selecting Save As->Windows - it couldn't be easier to bring your plugin to the masses.
Among many other bug fixes, this release also includes a brand new version of SpacePirate's awesome SpacePort application. The major crash experienced by some users has been fixed and the restrictions lifted. Converting EV or EVO plugins to EVN has never been easier.
What does it require? To the dismay of emulator users, and due to its use of new Carbon technologies, EVONE is only supported on Mac OS 9 or later, and Mac OS X 10.1 or later. Some have successfully gotten it to run on OS 8.6, though.
Where do I get it? EVONE is available for download at the Arios SoftWare website at: (url="http://"http://www.ariossoftware.com/products/evone/")http://www.ariossoft...products/evone/(/url)
Not only is this release better than ever, but it is a full 25% smaller, making for a 25% faster download!
EVONE is a $10 shareware application. If you plan on using EVONE, please register and support Arios SoftWare and the shareware industry.

I'm a Windows user, but let me just say thanks a lot. As far as I know, this is the first program that can do the reverse Windows -> Mac conversion on a Mac. Now developers can make .rez editors on Windows without worrying about compatibility, and a rift in the community won't develop. Of course it would still be great if those Windows editors could read and write the Mac format, but it won't matter as much if they can't.

Yes, it is. I felt very strongly that EVONE should be able to do the conversion both ways, instead of just converting .rez files back to Mac, so I spent the extra two days and added the functionality. Despite the fact that Ambrosia has not released official specs for the file (I wrote it via trial and error, by the way), EVONE can produce .rez files that are byte-for-byte identical to ones produced by the Windows converter. If Ambrosia does release official specs for the .rez format and they necesitate changes to EVONE's conversion algorithm, EVONe will be updated immediately.
Good deal. The windows .rez support is imo a must have. Excellent work.
That SpacePort plugin looks really awesome, too! Everyone should try it out!
