Thanks to some very helpful people on this board, I'm in the process of downloading System 7.5 for a mac emulator that I've gotten to work on my computer. I am now wondering whether I should try my hand at Mission Computer or just go the safer route with ResEdit. I remember back in the original EV days, the earlier versions of EV Edit used to eat up plug-in files and spit them out haphazardly, making values come out very odd when you checked them in ResEdit. I assume Mission Computer is more stable than that, since a lot of people seem to use it, but how stable is it? Are there any known bugs or glitches that people have experienced, and if so, how serious are they? I don't really want to take many risks as I would be running it on an emulated MacOS already...
Note that this is not meant to question David Arthur's ability, but simply an acknowledgment that programming is tough and that every program has bugs, even those produced with teams of hundreds and budgets in the millions...
David, if you read this, please feel free to respond

EDIT: I just noticed the other thread (I searched for a similar heading through the previous 3 pages but didn't think to check this one ;)), and I saw that there were some issues with saving and perhaps memory allocation... Is the suggested method of "Save as" every time the workaround?

Past versions of MC of worked great. MC3 is no exception. The only problem I've found using it is the saving issue. The Save As is a bit of an annoyance but it works. I'm sure DA will fix it quickly. You might want to check the requirements for the Classic version as I'm not sure how old of systems it's compatable with. ResEdit is great. I've preferred it for a long time. I'm gradually making the change to MC because there's a few nice features unique to it that I like and it's native to X. The biggest drawback to ResEdit is that it's horribly unstable. You get used to saving the file every time you make a change pretty quickly.

Any chance you'd be willing to elaborate?

I haven't had a serious problem with MC3 in weeks.

I've used MC a little bit on Basilisk II with system 7.5, like I assume you are/will, windwalker. I've only encountered a couple small problems, the most major being that it won't quit without saving. Otherwise, pretty much everything seems to work fine, although I'll admit that all I've ever really done with it is code a few missions and play around with other people's plugins a bit.

It also has some issues with the galaxy map. The System and spob editors themselves are great and very user-friendly but the galaxy map has a tendency not to show the systems, (well the two closest to cooardinates 0,0 are all it shows) that problem happens on OS8.6 and OS 9

It depends on the version of System 7....
7.5.1, 7.5.2 and 7.5.3 were rather unstable, but 7.5.5 was acceptable. You still got more than your fair share of Type 11s, though.

Yeah, I felt System 7.5.3 was the worst, it got better from there. By 7.6.1 it was almost type 11 free! Then I felt 8.x just about eliminated it and by 9 it was gone!!! Sorry, I won't drift off again, i promise
I save-as all of my plugs anyway. I have many older versions of all of my plug-ins handy.
