It'll be very hard trying to put a system or planet in a good location using only X and Y numbers. Is there any programs that have a map editor or something so I could put in a system and planet visually? I need it to run on MacOS 8 also.

Maybe you ccould use the x/y coordinates of the surrounding systems to pinpoint thee area you have to opperate within.
just a spur of the moment hunch from a newbie.

Well, there is EVONE, but then you mention the OS 8 requirement I am actually working on getting EVONE to work under 8.6 - maybe that support will come in the next version. I do not believe it will ever work on anything lower than 8.6 though due to the lack of support for CarbonLib 1.6.

The update to OS 8.6 is a freebie as long as you have a legal OS8. The OS8.6 update is about 20MB and it's somewhere in the morass of information on the official Apple Computer site. Just keep scrounging around at apple.com and you'll eventually find it. The OS8.6 update used to be at asu.info.apple.com/swupdates.nsf/artnum/n11386, but it's been years since I downloaded it myself and Apple has changed their site structure a couple of times since then, so that link is stale. You can try starting at Apple downloads and go from there in your search. Good luck.

If you need any beta testing done on that update to support OS8.6, I have a very stable 8.6 environment. Just let me know if I can be of any help.

Doesn't that update require 8.5?

I had to go hunting for my original Apple Software CD to check, but yup you're right. I started with OS8.5 and then updated to OS8.6. Sorry Jack, but it looks like you are stuck unless you can buy an OS8.5 CD on Ebay or somewhere.

No, I have 8.1. I got the 8.1 update and it said during the upgrade "updating system to MacOS 8.6.
Also when I try to update to the 9(yes, I have the update!) it says my computer is out of date. Obviously I need a better ROM image. Any place I can get a ROM of a PowerPC?

Thanks, I may contact you if I make any progress. I was actually forced to install 8.6 on an old SCSI drive yesterday (oh the horror!) to work on it. The current difficulty is simply getting it to compile under 8.6
