I have just created a quicktime movie of a ship spining (1 second film, 36 FPS), now I need to know how to get that into a plugin, as a working ship, using novatools/resedit or, failing that, Mission Computer. If someone could explain the steps to me, or direct me to a tutorial of some kind I would be eternily greatful.

Yes, I already have the movie as sprites, and a mask now, now, how do I put this ship into a plug using res and nova tools.
Im realy new to this so what resorces do I need other than shรคn and shฤp? and how do I make the shรคn resorce see my sprites. I tried just puting them in the pict, but all I get is 'no pict detected'
and what are the rlรซd and rlรซ8 resorces?
Im sory if Im being a real dumbass, but this is the first time ive tried anything like this, Im used to puting in my little 6x6 tile of ships in EV-edit, so this is a step up for me.

So, now that I know how to make the ships, how do you attach engine glows to said ship?
Edit: Oh, joy to the freaking world, It wont work! Okay, so I did what you said, I went into resedit, went File>new. created 2 pict files, the ship(128) and the mask(129) then I created a shรคn(128) and saved the whole thing. then I droped it into EnRLE, and pressed "OK" then, EnRLE quits, and I get no shรคn resorce. Then I tried opening EnRLE and loading the file. I thought it was working at first, becvause it said it was processing, but it was just a white box, and it remailed that way for 5 minutes. Help me out here guys, Im at a loss.

Ok first of all we must make sure that you have enough memory assigned to ResEdit. Then here is what I do :
- I take my movie and run it trough M2S , movie2sprites , that application will give me two PICT's a spin and a mask.
- I create a new ResEdit file.
-I paste the pics into the file
-The ID numbers of the pics are not important but write em down.
-In the same file create a new Shรคn resource
-Grab a copy of the EVN bible and fill in all the necessary fields.Make sure you fill in the following fields exactly , they are essential(among others): BaseImageID ,BaseMaskID,BaseSetCount,BaseXSize,BaseYSize. Consult the bible for more info , here is a hint: BaseImageID you fill in the ID of the spin PICT etc... You can work it out with the bible. Also make sure you give the shรคn resource a proper name , other wise you won't be able to find the outputted files.
-Now if you have done the above correctly you can drop the file on Enrele and it should generate two files.Make sure that enerele has enough memory. If everything goes well you should see your ship as it will appear in game in Enrele while its generating the RรซlD and Rรซl8 (sp?) files. Then you should find two files one contains the rรซlD and the other the rรซl8.
What the others forgot but is essential is the shรคn resource.
When all of this worked , post again and I'll guide you trough the next phase , which is far more easier than this.

Unfortunately, this works the same way as the ships do.. You create a spin of your engine glow, plug it into m2s, etc... The main hassle with engine glows is making sure they match up to the ships. What I do (on the advice of someone here, I can't remember who directed me to this..) is make my ship model with the engine flame attached, and give the ship a completely black color (I'm not sure what program you're using, so this may not work well for you). Then I spin the model and save the movie, which gives me a movie of just the part of the engine flame that shows in the ship. Then I remove the black coloration and delete the flame, spin the ship, and save that movie, which is my main ship movie. Of course, none of that will work if you can't get the rle*s to work.. So good luck!

JASAN, for the most part, follow what Entarus posted. Making ships with engine glows is basically the same as doing any shรคn, but you need to fill in the glow fields, namely the GlowImageID, the GlowMaskID, the GlowXsize, and the glow Ysize. Fill in the PICT IDs for the first two, and the size for the second two. This is almost completely identical for all other fields in the shรคn. Now, save the file, and drop it in EnRLE. EnRLE converts ALL pictures pointed to by either a spin or a shรคn, and converts it into an RLE.
Just a side note, if you have 1.0.6, I believe you can just use the PICTs, skipping all of the EnRLE converting stuff.

thanks, I already have the engine glow, I was just wondering how to apply it to a ship.
oh, somethings strange is going on, I now have two invisible res edit documents on my desktop called RlรซD and Rlรซ8, when I open them in resedit they have a blank shรคn resorce, what are they (incomplete files?) and how can I get rid of them?
Oh agan, and how much memory should I alocate to EnRLE?

Just another side note : In general rรซlD files are alot more stable than pictures , its recommended that you use rรซlD's , and rรซl8's.

Well, it finaly worked, and I now have a ship with engine glow! thank you everyone, you were a big help. now, can someone tell me what ID numbers are not already used?
edit: um new problem, was I supposed to make the ship black or white when I made the engine gows, because I did black, and now, whenever I accelerate, the ship turns black... but at least I managed to put a ship in the game!

For a mask its white I think. For the ID numbers , you can use high numbers I think like 10000+ , thats what I do when I don't want to look it up.
Instead of making the ship black, see if your 3D program has a hid selected feature. Also, if you do not name the spin for the picts and the masks, it won't work.

Thanks, although it wasnt 'hide' it was 'make shy', but it worked, and now the engine glow is working properly. All I need now is to know what resorce IDs arent taken, and the equations that tell me what resource # I should give the shipyard pic. (is the com pick automaticaly the same as the shipyard pic?)

Here are the calculations you need to do (I think these are correct but I'm not 100% sure , test it):
Ship ID plus...
+12872 = Buy Text +00000 = spฤn resource ID +13872 = Hire text +20000 = Big purchase PICT +2872 = Scan PICT (red) +4872 = Small purchase PICT

When you decide to make the texture all black, you should set the Diffuse and Ambience to 0% on the texture. This will make the ship completely dark, and cut out the flare.

yeah, I thought that I did, but, maybe I forgot. Oh well, make shy is easier to do anyway.
What program are you using? I never had trouble with it in Jules' pirated copy of Strata Nor did I see the make shy feature, if that's what you're using..
And not to sound like an impatient newbie, but.. anybody on the difference with the pics and quotes? :frown: I'm having trouble finding anything on them in the Nova Bible..
