Lightwave?

No, it'll work, there was just an odd setting that I had on, or off, or somewhere in between, I don't remember, it works now though. The texturing only kinda works, i'll have to mess with it and read the manual some, overall i'm using your ship as an item to mess around with, it'll have cool results though.

Sorry I didn't know it was PC only. I thought it worked on both systems.

Hmmm... So is the lightwave demo the same as the full version, but crippled with chessboard pattern and stuff? It would be nice to try out the features, but if it's missing like half the tools I can't be bothered downloading it...

Is it?

Yeah its got all the tools although you can only have 400 points per layer - whatever that means. The checker board can be feigned out in photoshop...

As I said before, however, you cant download a demo for it - you have to sign up somewhere and they send you a cd with it on.

Well, the demo version is quite crippling. In lightwave, it has individual layers, so you can combine multiple objects together, or leave them seperate while still being in one file. This also allows for easy UV mapping with things that could be a little harder than normal. The thing with the demo version is that it allows for only 200 polygons per layer ... which is painfully small... most of my objects range from 10,000-60,000 polygons ... 200 polygons is like, a sphere.

Not only that, in the layout menu, you get that checkerboard watermark over it. Plus, you can't save your scene once you make it. so if lightwave crashes, you lose everything without being able to back it up. The textures can only be rendered at 512x512 - normally its 1024x1024 - so you get this odd pixelling effect.

But you get the idea of how to use the program, which is enough, right?

LightWave is a great tool, but very expensive. If you're going to buy it, make sure that:

🆒. You reckon you can make back your investment through selling your graphics work.

Advice from someone who's been there.
