EV, EVO for EVN engine

There is a plug-in that makes EV run on the EVO engine. I was wondering if there is a plug in that makes either EV or EVO run on the EVN engine? Dont tell me to look on the addons page, I've looked.

I don't think there's one out yet. The main reason for that is the question that everbody asks when someone suggests it: why bother? It's gonna be a huge plugin, and if you recode it to take advantage of the new engine capabilities, it's not EV or EV/O anymore. There's a much bigger difference between EVN and its prequels than there was between EV and EV/O.

Suddenly, the little scoutship disappeared and then reappeared right behind the alien warfleet. The gravitic ship's captain hailed the armada. "You are going to be destroyed, but I will give you a choice as to how you want to spend eternity: big pieces, little pieces, or quarks?"
Dead silence.
"Quarks it is, then."

Actually both are in development. There is an "official" version, and my "unofficial" version. Mine is in an open beta, where the other's status is unknown. I didn't take advantage of any of EVN's features, it is kept as true to the original as possible.

What's the point then? people may as well play the originals. A new version of EVO or EV on nova would be kinda cool as you bring a whole heap of new stuff to them like smoke trails for missiles and 16 bit graphics, but if you're not going to include that kinda stuff, what the hell is the point?

Are you drunk?

I may not no the whole deal but it sounds kinda stupid.

EVO being then native to OS X. and then haveing the plug-in ability for all that you went on about. Plus the effect that it can then be used by Windows Nova, so then EV and EVO are in a way, ported to Windows so people don't need emulators.

Yes, all quite idiotic eh?

Sadly I don't have OS X, so I didn't see that as an advantage, but the amount of work that would be associated with porting a plug like that would be astronomical and the developer would have a feeling of it not being theirs.

If the porters (hehe) create new 16bit graphics and use up all of the additional features that the Nova engine has, to effectivly create a plug as good looking as Nova, with the story and ships etc the same as EVO, then the plug would be great as a sight seeing piece, but little more.

Of course it would be great for new players of the escape velocity series as they could get into the older games and perhaps even appreciate them more.

The whole idea is to take advantage of the features isn't it?

You assume too much.

KISS. Keep it simple stupid.
With the ports being as true to original as possible, it also leaves a large library of good old plugs which can then be ported over as Nova plugs. Then people don't have to try and make an inhanced version of these old plugs to try and make it stay consistent.
If you can't appreciate it for what it was, you can always wait for someone to make a partical abuseing, glow nauseating, overblown animated, 16 bit, "enhanced EV/O" plug. All it would take is new graphics since all the text and values and actual meat of the game would be already done.

It would be nice if you could use the ev/evo plugins available..... Actually, you would have to make only EV work on it, EVO is basically a huge plug in for EV...

What about a converter of sorts? Which just grabs what it can from an EV/O plug (or the actual thing) and then converts it to Nova adding as much of the additional stuff as possible.

But I guess that the games are to different for that to work well as it did with EV/O.

I agree with AAC on this one (BTW, good work on PaintStation Prime). My only problem with the ports is this: Since 1) the old games cannot take advantage of the new features, and 2) they won't be anywhere near as good if somebody modifies them to do so, therefore 3) why the <insert your favorite expletive here> bother?
