That would be AWESOME. If you don't know what StarControl 2 is, go (url="http://"http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~starcontrol/")here.(/url)

Hmm. Yea. That'd be neat. It'd also be neat to have "Original Graphics" and "Updated Graphics" versions. Certain ships, however, would be easy to replicate, while a bunch of the others would be really hard. The Ur-Quan Dreadnought, and the Ariloulaleelay Skiff would be really easy (although the SR Hyperdrive isn't possible the way it was meant to be). The Ur-Quan Kohr-Ah Marauder would be less easy (the spinning blade weapon would only be able to travel, not stop. The F.R.I.E.D. is easy). The Pkunk Fury's resurrection device would be near impossible, the Mmrnmhrm Transformer is impossible. Still, I think it'd be pretty neat.
(COMES BACK SEVERAL HOURS LATER) In fact, I'd be willing to help make ship sprites.

Never played the game, but the spinning blade weapon COULD stop- make it submunition into a freeflight rocket with 0 speed, that has the same graphic.
Oh, and as long as we're using old games/shows, someone should do a Battlestar Galactica plug (A show I've only recently watched any of- but apparently has the best death scene ever), and a Master of Orion plug (that is played in the same way as the actual game! Could be done).

Now this would be quite interesting...and I see some interesting ways of implementing it. I'm pretty busy with my own plug, but if anyone decides to do a Master of Orion one, I would be willing to help out.

Anyway, after spending the night thinking about Star Control 2 (and playing it again), I think that there are a bunch of ways you could get effects similar to the effects in the game. Others will still be impossible (Androsynth and Mmrnmhrm for example).

I agree with the BattleStar Galactica plug, how cool would that be! I think someone should do a Farscape plug, because you've allready got all the races you need and some ships, and you could make the rest up. And if someone could get the starburst effect on a ship as you jump Say no more.

Hmm, thought about that for a minute, how the heck does a third person flying game engine handle a 4x strategy game? I mean, you can't acutally have Nova play anything remotely like Master of Orion.

And speaking of MOO3, when is Amazon gonna ship me mine, the say 'usually ships in 2-3 days' and it's been a week...

You couldn't make it play like MOO, but you could do other things like researching tech, colonizing, etc. A few things could be easily done, but most of it would take a lot of work, and a lot of crons...
I had a Romance of the Three Kingdoms plug almost ready when I had my laptop stolen- now that thing was really stretching what a 3rd-person overhead space battle engine could do. But you could attack you enemies on your borders, or defend from their attacks, and battles between your two enemies where simulated with random crons. Everything was inertialess, and "fortifications" where made out of spobs. Very interesting, if I do say so myself.
