Okay, I couldn't think of a better title. Actually, I'm doing this more because I need help in designing a ship. See, here's my problem: I designed a ship's engine during a break in my film class, and before I got to drawing the ship that it went with, class started again, and I couldn't remember what the heck the ship was supposed to look like. Since I can't for the life of me come up with a design that I feel would go well with the engine that I built, I'm going to put this out to the board. When I build the ship in 3D, I'll add your name to the credits if I borrow bits of the design.

I've included four views of the engine so you can pick any number of them to add a ship to. It doesn't have to be a particularly good rendering of a ship (print, draw, and scan; or just draw in photoshop), just be able to get the idea across. (EDIT)I left the engine as untextured as possible so that I don't get locked into a particlar style of texturing. If you feel that you want to draw textures on the engine to add to your design, you don't need to feel bad about forcing me to change the textures, because there are none. Oh, the funny bump map and the yellow on the intake don't need to stay, I was just experimenting.(/EDIT)
Oh, I forgot, the engine is supposed to be a pod that sits outboard of the ship, and swivels to thrust vector (think of the V-22 Osprey, the Starbridge, or the Black Boa from the Final Fantasy movie).
Oh, the deadline for this is probably within the next week, so we'll say that all submissions have to be in by Saturday, March 29th. Just post your submission on this thread in your reply. Thanks.

I would love to do that, except I can't find a free website to host my pictures. ( I tried evula.org but its closed at the moment) Any ideas?

If you don't have free webhosting, email me your submission, and if you want (specify in the email), I'll host it on my evula.org space until I make my decision(s).
Thats very nice of you, I might take you up on that, If I do submit anything it'll most likely be something done by hand then scanned in if thats allright, just because I havent got the time at the moment to do anything else (Im in the middle of exams) But I like the look of the engine and Ive got a few ideas for it allready.

That's why I'm setting a deadline of a week. I don't want people spending too much time on it, because that's my job. Besides, I'm going into exams anyway, so I wouldn't have much time to work on it until they're over.
try this server: (url="http://"http://www.lycos.com")www.lycos.com(/url) it has free web hosting of up to 20 megs..... just make an account, and go to the file organisor, there you can upload images

Has anyone tried to email me? My email provider has been selectively delivering mail to me whether it's meant to go there or not. So sometimes I get my mail, and sometimes I don't. I don't know why. damn mail.com. I'd be using my EVula.org email, but for some reason, I'm having trouble with that. I should try again so I can get the specific error.
Anyway, that's for another time and place. If you have emailed me, try again, and post in this thread so that I know. If I don't receive anything after you've emailed me, then I'll ask you to contact me on AIM.
Just passing thru, but there's an easy way to get around prohibited image linking - link to the image directory, you get a directory listing (make sure there's no index/home.html). then they can view images from there. (alternatively, you can make a quick display page index.html that shows all the pics)
Good free modeller:
POV-Ray is a non-graphical modeller that has a large user base and a lot of plugins to add to its very good basic capabilities, focuses on primitive objects, has excellent texturing, material editing (interiors, refraction, particles, etc) - MegaPov adds some nice capability in those departments especially. Rendering is fairly fast, animation is great because macros can be written in the modelling language. Takes some learning, not as powerful as the professional stuff, but its free, and some amazing stuff has been created with it. Moray is a shareware (not trialware or crippleware - ie, no expiration or missing features) program that provides a wireframe / solid-model frontend, plus a much more graphical representation of objects. Some handy built in tools, such as copying, rotating, Bezier patch editing (passed as triangle meshes to POV-Ray), inverse kinematics, and animation (although I much prefer scripting my own animation). (Windows/DOS only, possibly runnable in emulators on Macs, I'm pretty sure it can be run in Linux) (url="http://"http://www.stmuc.com/moray")www.stmuc.com/moray(/url)

I thought that MegaPOV was PC only. I use POV-Ray btw, but this thread is not because I don't know how to do 3D, but rather because I don't know how the rest of the ship is supposed to look. Once I get an idea (or someone provides a good one), then I can complete it.
