Adjacent syst to syst ID

I'm not having any luck getting this one to work. I'm setting up the mission so that a special ship appears in a random system next to a specific one - just as the Adjacent syst to syst ID is supposed to do. But the ship never shows up. I can get the mission fine. All the right descs show up. The syst ID that I'm giving is 468 for Evlei. I haven't noticed any other IDs for this system so I'm guessing it's the right one. Has anyone experienced problems using this setting? I was thinking that I'd maybe have to change the system settings to include the dude ID but this shouldn't be necessary if it's a special misn ship. As always, any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Does the ship have any special requirements for showing up itself? Do any bits need to be active before the ship will appear in the game?

I think he means that the special ships from the mission won't show up. I didn't get the idea it was a pers ship, so there can't be any other conditions that would keep it from showing up. I'd just double check the number of special ships you have set and that you wait around a bit in each system around the system to make sure its not just jumping in late.

No it isn't a pers. It's just a regular ol' Fed Carrier. I tried making it appear by first making it appear randomly in the system then, when that didn't work, having it jump in. Neither one worked. I'm just using a work around at the moment by puting the ship in a specific system while I continue testing the rest of the plug; but it would be nice to get this solved. It's more of a pain to have to look for something than know the exact system to find it 😉

No, I did not mean përs, I was refering to shďp. Ship resources themselves have fields to determine if they show up or not. However, since this is a Federation ship, this is probably not the problem. Which düde ID are you using? If it's one you made yourself, what have you put down for ship IDs and probabilities?

No, like I said it's just a normal Fed Carrier; dude 179 if I remember right.

Thanks for the offer Ernimtir. It's getting to be a pretty big file though and I don't want to try and break it up into just the piece you'd need since I'm sure that would cause plenty of problems in itself. So, I probably won't send it. Hopefully I can work this out though since I'd like to use this setting in other missions.

Just to verify... people have actually used this before haven't they? This isn't like the Mission Fail text that has had problems is it?

I'd imagine they'd have to have done it before. It's used in Nova by all most all the bounty hunter and similar type missions. You might take a look at some of those to see if you're missing something. And as for sending it to me, that's okay, if it's too big too break up, then chances are it'd be too big to download on my stupid dialup anyway.

Ahh, but it's not the "Adjacent to Initial Syst" (which the bounty hunter missions use) rather it's "Adjacent syst to syst ID." I thought there might be some confusion about the two. The former works fine. I've used it on many occasions. It's the latter that's giving me trouble. One thing I noticed is that David Arthur didn't include it in his Mission Computer 2.0. Wondering if there was a specific reason for this. Might have to drop him a line.

Looking in the EVN Bible (6/9/02 edition), you'll find that 'syst adjacent to syst ID' is not included as an option in the misn's "ship syst" field. This leads me to believe that this capability was removed before release or never actually added to the engine. It was probably just an oversight that it was left in NovaTools.

Well that sucks. That would have been perfect for a few missions. Anyway, thanks a bunch for clearing that up Slagblah. I can finally move past this now.
