Yes, Strata 3d question

So pretty much trying to find a specific answer regarding Strata in the search listings takes as much time as trying to learn the dumb program. I've been messing with this thing all day and have really only managed to get frustrated. So, doesn anyone here know how to create basically a Wraith shape? A rounded half-moon that tapers to a point at each end. This is driving me crazy. Why can't Illustrator do 3D :frown: I need a blend tool.

Ahhh, metaballs... looks like I posted too soon. May have figured out a way to do it. Sorry 'bout that guys. If anyone has any other suggestions though I would love to hear them.

How do you do metaballs?
Edit: And what are they?

Metaballing is the process of arranging a number of spheres in a general shape, and using this feature of the program to combine them to make a single shape that has smoothed out all the creases between the spheres. I probably didnt explain that too well, but anyway 🙂

I would say a better way of making that shape is with the besier surface tool. Create a sphere, convert to besier surface, and select the snap to grid option (otherwise its hard to make the object simetrical. Click on the reshape button, and play around with the points until you get the desired shape. You may need to change the number of snap subdivisions to 2, inorder to make the modelling more accurate.

It's also extremely memory intensive to make an entire ship this way. I've allocated 300000k to Strata and it's still can't render anything but outline mode.

From the master himself 🙂 Thanks Ewan, I'll give that a try.

Master 😛 I like that! unfortuneately it is anything but true :frown:

(url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/ewanc/shapes.jpg")Here is what I made in about a minute of work.(/url)

There are two different shapes there. The second is an adaptation of the first that I made to make it more Wraith like.

I can send you the model file if you like.

Well, you're a hell of a lot better than me. I've been going about this whole thing all wrong. I think I'm finally getting somewhere with this. Thanks for the advice.
