Thanks. I expirimented with it a little. I remember Martin Turner said that Pixels 3d has more powerful modelling, so I may keep using that since I've acclimated to it's oft bemoaned interface. However, Pixels has no polygon mesh modelling (it's all nurbs) so that feature of strata is compelling.
Not so sure yet about its prowess at boolean but I'll have to read more manuals.

True, in X.2 Server classic gives me a -5000 error, unless I delite the pref file

I put the Prefs in the Strata Prefs folder and replaced it with the old. but when I open Strata it says that it was installed incorrectly and that I need to reinstall it.

There is no real tutorial to my knowledge. You can't just expect to pick up a program and know how to use it first time off... Just start playing with all the features. Start off by making a cube. Then just keep playing around until you get something halfway decent. You will not make Nova style graphics the first time you play with a model. Practice makes perfect!
You could also go to (url="http://"http://www.stratacafe.com/")http://www.stratacafe.com/(/url) and look at the tutorials there. Just keep in mind: the people who make the best gfx here have been using 3d for years. I've been doing graphics for about a year now, and they still suck... Learning this takes time, and lots of it.
And once you get really fimiliar with Strata's controls, you can make (url="http://"http://www.meteorarts.com/ROPE.jpg")this(/url) in 10 minutes like I did
Strata may appear to be for the simple modelers, but it can do some heavy duty stuff as well, so don't give up on it (no, I'm not saying what I just showed was heavy duty... :))

What taught me nearly every program that I know is looking at other peoples work. Go grab somebody els's model and mess with it. Probably the first thing to do is learn how to navigate Strata's 3D world. If you can't navigate you have no hope to model. Warking with somebody els's model is also a good way to learn every aspect, and, as you get better look at more complicated models to learn more.
I have an older site that I put up to show off my work in Sata 1.75+ (I'm still using it too). These are all simple models that anybody here could make in an hour at most. Okay, I got registered with Strata and got a code, but it won't work. It gives me a message saying I'm either not connected to the internet (which I am or I couldn't be here), 3D.com isn't accepting requests, or my code is wrong (I've tried my old code, my new code, and the code posted on this board).
I sent an email to their tech support and they said that I might be behind a firewall and would need to set up a web proxy address (which I'm not cause I surf without a web proxy) or my router strips packets, but I'm not using a router, just the cable modem hooked up to my Mac directly via Ethernet.
If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it. Thanks :).

Download my preference file. Drop that in the strata preferences folder (os9)
I did, it told me that Strata 3D was not installed properly and to reinstall it.
Try deleting strata, then download it again. Unless you have the sit file still... Did you put the preferences in the right folder? If Multi Users is on you need to put it in the preferences in your users folder.
Multi-Users is not on and I did put it in the right folder.
I tried reinstalling and putting in your pref file, but it came up with the same "has not been installed correctly, reinstall and try again" message.
hmm... Which link did you d/l it from? mine or Jagers? Also, check to see if all the extensions loaded correctly.
I know that mine works fine on every computer...
