I've seen listed several places (most notable here on Ambrosia in the FAQ for EV) that a version of Strata 3d is avalible for a free download, but all the links that I have found for it have been bad- does anyone have a known-good link for this? Or for the supposed ly free version of Brice that's out there?

Unfortunately, it is slow as a windows pc, but it is there. ?12 mb, ?1 kbps... good luck. Hopefully that is not what speed it will always be, it might get better.

Thanks for taking the time to deal with this.
But as it turns out, it seems that Strata isn't providing anything for this version any longer... I went through all of the crap this morning to get it regestered (after my fifth try DL'ing it!) and o matter what I do the regestration number provided by Strata themselves does not work. Thanks anyway...

Unfortunately, Strata no longer offers a free version of Strata 3D. I would recommend downloading the version from the link provided by SpacePirate. It is older and not Mac OS X native, but much more fully featured than 3D base 3.5. The only thing I think I should mention is that Strata 3D has never been excessively stable, and some annoying bugs can show up when running 3.02 in OS X under Classic, but it is still usable.

The best program for modeling ships 4 EV is Rhino. It is very powerful, and you can create virtually any idea. I highly recommend picking it up, either through an academic discount site or one of the shadier corners of the internet. It is especially good for creating alien-organic-looking ships.

Sorry I never got back to a thread that I started, I saw 'piracy' and planned on staying out of it.
I did DL the one from the link of SpacePirate, and I could not get a regestration code or something, not sure. I found a free version after a lot of crap from Strata online but I also could not get a regestration code (even from them, the one that they provided did not work), plus it was save-disabled.
I think that I'm either going to keep canvasing the free shipyards out there untill I find something appopriate for Nova (as in it doesn't look like some variation of a tube with a cone on the end) or this possible deal for six ships for $30 pans out.

The reason the code doesnt work is becsue its not inabled yet, it takes several hours to several days, i would suggest using someone elses FREE code. or email them and ask, they will help you.
Yeah. 3.02 is free, so it doesn't matter if you use someone elses code anyways.
yeah, that brings up interesting ethics. are you pirating if something used to be free, and no longer is, but you use the old version and someone elses code?
