The EV Bible: Annotated Edition by Lord of the Lemmings says that you can force a flet resource to appear as a dude in a system by putting its negative value (160 becomes -160, etc.) into the DudeTypes field, but this doesn't seem to work. Does anyone know how you can do this?
I also tried doing it as its 'order' value, (128 becomes 0, etc.,) but this doesn't work either.

Never mind. I found an old topic that said that you put the fleet's number in the dude resource itself. Sorry. (jabs self in eyeball) "Next time, try searching for it first!"
Does the same thing happen in EVN?

Dunno, I haven't gotten EV:N yet.
Yes.

I tried putting the negative value in the dude resource, but it doesn't work that way, either. How do you do it? Aaaaargh!...

Try it in Nova.

And again, I haven't gotten Nova yet. I really need this to happen in EV for my plugin.
I never knew it was possible. But I'm a bit rusty with EV/O at this point. I've been working with Nova exclusively since it got released. Nova is a developer's dream.

Aiiiiiiiiiiiiii! Nobody listens! This is for EV, not EV:O! I don't have enough memory for EV:N, either, and even if I did I wouldn't make plugins for it.
My trusty copy of the EV Bible: AE says:
One special note: If you want a syst resource's DudeType field to point to a fleet type (see above) instead of a dude type, set its value to the negative of the fleet's resource ID. This will force EV to include that specific fleet type in the system a definite percentage of the time, instead of haphazardly as it normally does. (LOTL says:---->) This is the most reliable way to include a fleet in the universe.
Could it be that you have to set the dude's resource ID itself to be negative?
Well, putting the negative of a flet resource number in the dude field of a sys works in EVO at any rate. I tried it in EV but it didn't seem to work, perhaps I wasn't paying attention though and entered something incorrectly.
