I got EV-Edit because I thought it would be easy to use. It was easy to use, but it was really buggy, and messed up all the plugs i made. There were always Issues on why it did this and that... every little while, after i'd done something dicente it decided to delete everything. I got fedup with it. I looked around on the boards, searched the boards (nothing was exactly what i was looking for) and the add-ons page, the only thing i found something like EV-Edit was EVGod but it was still in beta. I was wondering if there was really something else like EV-Edit (user friendly) and (easy) to use. But wasn't so buggy. I tryed ResEdit but I never got the hang of it. And i was afraid i might mess up something big like the data files. So I ask, is there anything else out there be sides EV-Edit that isn't so buggy? And perhaps easy to use? Please let me know, because I'm really fedup at what EV-Edit did, in fact it didn't do anything at all except screw up everything. Thanks Taylor

The best solution:
EV-Edit for everything you know it won't mess up (it's usually good with ships and outfits, and not too bad with systems).
MissionComputer for missions (DavidArthur will be along with a link soon).
Res-Edit for anything else.
(edit: Concerning Res-Edit. Download NovaTools, and use it when you're editing EVO plug-ins. Although NovaTools is meant for EVN and has categories you won't need, it might help make it more user-friendly. As long as all the unnecessary categories don't scare you off, that is)

Dude, just sit down and take the time to learn ResEdit. It's the most powerful editor you can find, and it makes plenty of sense if you're accompanied by the EVO Bible. I'm working on my own EV plugin at the moment, and it's completely a product of ResEdit - and I've yet to face a bug.
ResEdit is the way to go.

yeah, but it seems kinda hard. what if i mess something up?

Oh, leave him, Skyblade. EV-Edit is the most user friendly, and if you avoid the areas where it has bugs, it just...works. You change something, and it works. In Res-Edit, half the time there's an error you missed or a number you typed in wrong. With the EVO Bible...yes, it explains it, but it doesn't make the interface any easier.

What areas should I stay away from? Are there any other applications that replace the parts of EV-Edit that are buggy? Is there anyway to fix the bugs?
Avoid EV-Edit. Learn ResEdit.

Easer said then done I was wondering if there was something easer then ResEdit besides EV-Edit.
If you install the EVO Templates, ResEdit really isn't hard to use at all.

Where would I get those?
They come in the EVO package. Look in the Development tools(?) folder in the EVO folder and the template and bible should be in there.

You seem to think that nothing will mess up with EV-Edit, when that couldn't be further from the truth. In ResEdit, variables don't randomly change, while in EV-Edit they can. Besides, once EV-Edit botches your plugin, you'll need ResEdit to fix the problem.
(url="http://"http://www.evula.com/evo_bible/")Here(/url) is a copy of the EVO Bible; I'm not sure if it's the latest or not, though, so if anyone could verify that, I'd be happy.

Well, it's nice to see that Taylor, if no-one else, shares my view, but I iwsh the rest of you could at least consider it here. Some people just do not want to use Res-Edit. I won't go into why not, because you'll all leap to the program's defence with 10/10 for rant, and 1/10 for empathy. : )
Every time I've used Res-Edit, it's screwed up. Even changing something so small as a ship's shields, it's screwed up. On the other hand, where EV-Edit works, it really does work. I know you say that EV-Edit can randomly change numbers, EVula, but the places where it screws up are easy to avoid.
Taylor; stay away from missions, there's a flag there that will not deselect which messes up any missions you want to make. Also stay away from systems for the most part - it works mostly, other than VisBits, but it can cause EV-Edit to crash occassionally. I've never found any problems with any other areas, though.
I'd strongly advise finding MissionComputer.

Maybe you're not using it right?

Oh, don't get me wrong; I think that EV-Edit is a great tool for learning how to make plugins. However, the fact remains that it is better to learn ResEdit than to depend entirely upon EV-Edit.
Also, it should be noted that all of my EV plugins were done in EV-Edit, with no problems whatsoever (except Hornet, but that's for a different reason and has nothing to do with EV-Edit at all).
Edit: Botched UBB.

Hmm, you seem not to have the same problems as me with the "random quiting" "buggy interface" "random freezes" "random data loss" and some "hyper links broken" What did you do to fix all of those problems? How did all your plug-ins work fine when you made them with EV-Edit? What parts of EV-Edit should I advoid?
Originally posted by Mahayana: Maybe you're not using it right?;)
Do you really think it's difficult to add a "0" to a ship's shields? <grin>

I just told you.

I wouldn't think so, but here we are, SilverDragon.
