Help!
1. Is there a official/unofficial (I don't care) set of instructions for making plug-ins at all? I know, I know the EVN Bible. Frankly, that is the most confusing piece of literature I have ever tried to read.
2. How do you input the flag information?
3. What if the information that the resource requests is too large to fit into one four-digit series? (i.e. short string information)
4. How do you match a PICT up with an oütf resource?
5. I am supposed to enter all the ResEdit information in hexadecimal, right?
6. Why does the ResEdit information for the (for example) existing spöb resource have many, many more series than the EVN Bible designates?
7. Am I stupid and all of this is really obvious to everyone else?
Thanks for any input at all, this plug I've been slaving over cannot just go to waste.

1. Yes. In the EV Addons section (I think) there is a thingy called "The shipbuilder's Guide to EV Development" or something like that. I can't remember. It helped me extraordinarily. Even though it's written for EV, you can still apply most of the concepts to Override or Nova.
2. (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/~dr_ralph/index.html")NovaTools(/url) will help you with that, because it has checkboxes for marking flags.
3. Don't know what you're talking about. Can you elaborate?
4. This is documented in the EVN Bible, in the oütf section. Outfit ResID - 128 + 5000 (please correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't memorized that textbook)
5. I am supposed to enter all the ResEdit information in hexadecimal, right? For colors, yes. I don't know what else you'd use it for, if you have NovaTools.
6. I don't know.
7. No, it took me 4 years to figure out the tiny knowledge I have, and since NovaTools came out, everything is much easier.

That's pretty much what I've been told. However, so far I've been doing all of my work by just typing the information straight into a ResEdit hex editor window because I don't understand what Nova Tools (is/should be) doing for me. I had to open the About Nova Tools file in Quick Time Player; that wasn't of much assistance. Pls help.

I open BBEdit (NovaTools' readmes) files in SimpleText, which should be on your computer.

Yeah, well, uh...
Anyway, I don't see Nova Tools doing my flag information for me. I don't see it doing anything at all! It justs sits there while I type information into the Hex Editor. How can i get it to do something?
OK I double click on Nova Tools and it opens it up in ResEdit. Is that supposed to happen? I doesn't seem that it can help me that way... (when I Get Info for Nova Tools, it calls it a ResEdit document)
Is this normal behavior for Nova Tools? If not, why is this happening? If so, how does this help me any?

You have to open the Res-Edit preferences and copy everything from the Nova Tools file to it.
Hope this helps.

Everything, eh?
I heard differently. I'll try it.

The installation of NovaTools is documented, not surprisingly, in the NovaTools documentation. You might try reading it. . mcb

True, although despite my joy with w00tware's work, I think they provide limited documentation, and complicated as well (I'm not refering to NovaTools, just overall from my experince). My only compliant with them would be that.

This may be so, but the smart thing to do would be to read the documentation before asking for help with something so basic as installing the program. . mcb
I did read the documentation. (That was my hearing differently) It said to merely copy the RSSC resource but that didn't work. (Because I aapparently had to copy the entire NovaTools file.)

I didn't have any problems with NovaTools. You really don't need all that much in the use of NovaTools, but the installation stuff was easy to figure out.

There were several phrases in the read-me that were ambiguous at best, and one that was incorrect; referring to the file "NovaTools 1.0.0" (which is how it appears on the desktop) as "NovaTools.res".
Since I have been using and modifying ResEdit templates for EVO use for over a year I didn't have any much trouble figuring out what was meant. Someone without much experience, however...

Unfortunatly I found the instillation of NovaTools took a few intuitive leaps and although I personally found the instillation quite easy I can see how it could become very difficult if you were not in the proper "mode" of thinking. In short I too say the the NovaTools documantation needs some clarification. Just my two cents. Gotta run.

I'm "making" a "plugin" too. Does anyone have a link to download nova tools?

The tools can be found on (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/dr_ralph/")w00tWare(/url)'s web site. And why the quotation marks?

Cuz Disco's an annoying SOB. It's taken him several months to get from "I have no idea what the heck is going on so I'll pollute the board :)" to "I still don't know what I'm doing :)" and unless he actually shows some evidence that he's actually working on a plug of some sort, I'm still going to think that he's an annoying SOB. If he makes a plug that I actually like, then I might consider changing my opinion of him.
