Less systems

I'm making a TC plugin, and I was trying to figure out how I'm going to manage having less systems then in Nova. To make that clearer, I need less systems. The problem is that Nova uses around 500 systems (most of them infuriatingly uninhabited) and I only need about 200-250. How do I manage to not use any of the systems in Nova?

Parenthesis: Useful for having notes within notes. (Always remember to keep these short and to the point, not long winded lectures, otherwise the reader will not know what you are saying. (Also note that parenthesis within parenthesis are sometimes confusing (when they end at the same time)) You must always close parenthesis (with a ) symbol) because otherwise it will confuse the reader even more.

I might have a simple solution, but it easier said than done. All you do is simply cut off any hyperlinks from systems you don't want. When a single system is completely cut off, it does not register on the map, even if it is discovered. That's my theory but it's all I can think of for now. Hope it helps. And if there is a system in the middle of a government you don't want in there, you can make adjacent systems bypass the one you're trying to rid, this too will prevent the system from registering.

If that's too complicated maybe you can reassign the unwanted system with different resource ID's or mission visbits, you know pushing them aside with 32767 or something like that.

Just insert blank system resources for the ID's you want to overrwrite and have go away.

Wrong: S7evyn.

That's the best way. Or rather, that's the most sure way that unwanted systems won't show up.

S7evyn is not completely cut off (there is a wormhole link, which still counts)

And it is still not true. Even if a system isn't explored or even connected to the rest of the map, all it takes is a single planet that can be landed on to show up randomly in some missions.

But, if the systems are emasculated in the first place, there's no way of getting there at all just to make it show up, and so the systems won't appear, unless you hack through hit via ResEdit.

As for creating blank data in the syst resources field, that doesn't sound like a bad idea.

I don't think that the wormhole link does count, as that's a spöb, not a jump route. shrug

As was said above, you could just make blank resources that take up system slots to prevent the nova systems from appearing. If that makes weird things happen, just make a whole bunch of uninhabited systems that aren't connected to anything and located way off the side of the map.

True it's a spöb, but nonetheless it acts like a hyperlink so technically it would still register on the map upon discovery right? I'm just guessing cause I haven't tinkered around with EVN's resource long enough to understand that kind of stuff.

If you discover the system through a wormhole, it will be placed on the map, and since the wormhole jumps are random, you are likely to discover it at some point.

The only sure ways to conceal the original systems are, as already mentioned, to replace them with blank resources; or to replace them with the original resources modified by an ncb which would keep them invisible.

Both of these methods will ensure that even if a wormhole exists you won't go through it, because the wormhole random selection only considers systems which are visible or potentially visible (not yet on the map only because you haven't discovered them).

If you want to modify them with an ncb, the best way to do it is to create a text file with ConText, search and replace, and then recreate the resources with ResStore, both available from Dr. Ralph at
