Question From A Developer Newbie

Im trying my hand at my first plug using resedit. I have a question to wich the answer will probably be really simple. Please bear with me.

Ok so I have all the changes done to the resources.
So now do I have to do something special to make it into a plugin?

Help is appreciated!!

The file type of the plugin should be Npďf and the creator should be Növä.

If you can not get the last reply. Fields need to be Npif (two dots over the i), and Nova (two dots over both the o and the a).

Those two replies are true IF the pug-in is for Nova. If it's for EV:
Mpif (two dots over the i) and Merc (two dots over the e) To get these two dots, hold otion + u, then the letter you want to have the dots over.
Dunno about Override.

Here are the type/creators for EV Override

Type = Opďf
Creator = EsçO

Of course the easiest way is to take an existing EV/EVO/EVN plugin, erase all the resource forks and replace them with your own.

Captain: What!

That won't work for Nova, as there is no sample plug-in.

Actually, there is a (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/vftp/show.pl?product=evn&category;=guides&display;=date&file;=BlankNovaPlugin.sit")blank Nova plug(/url) available on the Nova Add-Ons page.

There is a blank plug, but I said just take any plug and erase the resources. Since I assume that you've already downloaded plugins to EVN, you already have files with the correct type. When I make plugs I usually just duplicate any random plugin, rename it to what I want it to be, and then go into resedit, erase all the original data, and replace it with my own. There's nothing really special that you have to do to get the correct file type.

Opening the sample plug-in and doing a cut-and-paste of the file type and creator to your new plug-in also works well.

Hey thanks, I was killing myself to figure that out. The way you put it is much
more simple.

In my opinion (yeah, I'm biased) the easiest and best way to give your plugin the correct type/creator codes is to download (url="http://"http://kevin.sb.org/evnova/")Nova File Changer(/url), which will let you batch-change a group of files to any file type supported by Nova.
