Need help with Hitch-hiker's Guide plugin

Hi,

I'm working on a relatively large plugin based on the Hitch-hiker's Guide trilogy for EV:Nova, and I need help with the most basic stuff.

First, in NovaTools, there are boxes for puting dësc ResIDs. My question is, where do you put the dësc for the very first dialog, you know, where a guy comes up to you and gives you a choice if you want to help him or not.

Second, I need help writing the missions, so if anybody is interested in helping out, you can e-mail me at EMPTYTRASH@aol.com

Thanks!

You don't put it anywhere. The ID of that dësc resource is fixed by the engine as the ID of the mďsn resource, minus 128, plus 4000.

So, like, mďsn resource id + 3872. 😛

Yes - I was explaining the logic behind it. It's 4000 plus the index number, where the index number is the ID minus 128. The index number is useful to know, as it is used other places as well. I believe NovaTools displays the index number, and, for that matter, the offering dësc resource ID, in the top-left corner of the editor window.

the hitch-hikers guide "trilogy" consists of five books and one short story.
how exactly were you planning to do the infinite improbability drive that the heart of gold has? ill be interested to see it... 🙂

I was aware of the fact that there are five books, with another one coming out soon. (One year after Douglas Adams died), just in case nobody knew, it's called "Salmon of a Doubt".

Anyway, thanks very much for the answers!

Having loved the Trilogy, I would be interested in lending a hand. How exactly are you planning to do this? The books do not elaborate on major governments and military factions very much. There is the galactic government (whatever its called), the Vogons, and the xenophobes from that one planet with the white attack robots. I don't honestly remember a lot about the books, having read them a while ago and having not completed the last few books.

Well, right now I have two governments, Frogstar and the Vogons, and I only put those in because I needed them for the target picts and AI and things like that.

I have 4 ships in mind for Frogstar, and in the books they are called "Frogstar Class A", "Frogstar Class B", etc. So far I only have one Vogon ship, the Vogon Destroyer. It looks realy ugly, but since it's supposed to...

I'm going to put the Horsehead Nebula in it, because I want that big planet with the company that makes planets (I forgot what it's called).

If you did want to have the Infinite Improbabilty Drive (IID) as an outfit, you could design it as an outfit that combined a hyperspace distance mod (so you can jump from anywhere in the system) and multi-jump (999 or some huge number, so you can go from any system to anywhere else in just one jump). Maybe throw in hyperspace speed mod (so never takes more than 1 day) and fast-jumping.

Don't imagine that would work out too bad...

Yikes! Okay, I think that's TOO powerful, but who cares? Since it doesn't have many weapons in the book, I'll go with cloaking devices and multi-jump thingees. Good idea, thanks!

Actually, you could make it rather interesting... how about taking the improbability itself into account? When you get the IID, activate a repeating crön that moves you to a random system every couple of days. That's a bit of a drawback to balance it...
