Death of a Plug-In

After four years of frustration, procrastination, and back-burnerdom, I'm giving Cold Blood the ol' 21-gun salute. That's right, I'm letting it go. For those of you who never knew what it was, the old website is still up, unfinished. You might want to check it out, perhaps. Or not. Your call.

I'm not going to let all that work go to waste, though. Pretty soon here, I'm going to give away all the ships I made for it for free, on a shipyard. The outfit graphics, also. As well as the nice, new, animated main-interface-screen I recently whipped up. Everything to do with it, in fact. I have a thousand years of history on an extensive timeline, a 2" binder full of notes, misc. sketches, etc. A lot of good story ideas.

If it continues, it won't be by my hand, and don't try to tell me otherwise. The only thing I might change my mind on is not to release any of the stuff I made to the public domain. But the chances are slim. I've been told that CB coulda been EV3, if my timing were better. Just as well.

Oh well, that tis sad. Pitty we need to get jobs etc, kinda sucks up spare time.

I think Cold Blood could have been something really good, especially if done for EV:N, but that's just the way it goes.

Good luck with whatever you do next.

Oh, man... that was an awesome plugin, and I hate to see it go.

So, you're thinking of putting up a shipyard, eh? If you're willing, I'd love to host them in my shipyard (which also hosts another fallen great, (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/shipyard/eeun.html")Eeun's Shipyard(/url)). It's a great way to get the planets out there, saying as I've got a very high amount of traffic (well, for an EV site anyway). Email me if you are interested, and we can work out the details.

Dang! Cold Blood was by far the most anticipated plugin on my list... I hate to see it go. It was going to be the true king of plugins.

Concerning those graphics, SS is open to ships from anyone. It's just a matter of getting people to submit them. Hehe.

Again, sorry to hear that. :frown:

I suggest you hand it over to an experianced developer to finish, as a whole. Otherwise you will probablly end up seeing your first rate ships mixed with other lesser quality graphics in a cheat plug made by some newbie. That would be truely sad. Better to have it finished and released as a unit, even if it's not by your hands.

That is a crying shame. Not only for all of us who have been anticipating one of the best plugs ever, but also for you after all the work you have done.

I urge you, I implore you, to please make every effort to find a good, responsible developer to carry on with development and not just let all the great work you have done go piecemeal to whoever wants to grab a part of it.

Best wishes,

Man,like others Ive been waiting for this plug-in for years. Dont just give away all those beauties you`ve made.Give it to somebody capable of making it the same level you were going to do it.

...Man, I still can`t believe it....

------------------

I have to agree with most everyone here: Try to find someone to continue the work. I can't help but think that it'd be better for it never to be finished than to be torn into shreds and distributed as bits and pieces in other plgus. I'd offer to do it myself if I were one of the experienced developers discussed earlier... heh.

Cold Blood was number one on my anticipated plugins-in-progress, too. And, I'm gonna tell you again: it's good enough to have been EV3. (Hey, necro, can I borrow your mourning robe?)

I agree - pass it on to someone who can finish it to be what it would have been; if you have a 2" binder full of notes, it shouldn't be too much of a problem for that person or group to keep it faithful to the original.

My best to you and all of CB - you and it rock absolutely. You will be sticking around in the EV community, right?

Do you think I could submit some? I have quite a few unused models just sitting on my hard drive looking for a new home.

The main problem with passing on this project is it's a large beast of a thing. Rather intimidating to start right in the middle. But I don't mean to underestimate anyone else here. Who would be up to it? A team, perhaps?

Yeah, I'll be around. I'm planning on, once I get set up to do 3D stuff again, cranking out ships for a shipyard of my own. We'll see.

There is so much work to be put into to developing a good plug, and CB was one of the best going, you were so far but I know that you just get burned after a while. Too bad. You are an inspiration to us all man (yeah yeah, bring out the marching band I know . . .)

Good luck in future 3D work!

Noooooo!
A team is the kiss of death for a plug. I've been involved in enough team efforts to know. I have yet to see a team release anything worthwhile (though I am hoping to be proven wrong.)
Find one good person to take over the project and let him "subcontract" portions of it if he needs to. All of the best plugs have been primarily the result of one developer's work, though there are few completely solo projects.
Iit should be much less intimidating starting in the middle with most of the design work done than starting with nothing.

Wow.. some of those graphics are in a word.. stunning. It's sad to see so much work go to waste. I know what it is to be frustrated and tired of a project, but there's nothing anyone else can say that'll make you change your mind. That said, I'd really love to see what ships/outfits you had cooked up.. some of those ships reflect many hours, if not days or hard work, and I think it would be a shame if they were never used. If I was still developing a plug-in for EV3, I would certainly look into using those, with your permission. But unfortunately, I've got the stories, but not the technical prowess or the time to complete such a project, which seems to be the case with you. Stick with graphics.. you could go places someday with that kind of talent.
