Strat3D Pro fire & smoke

I have only just started to use Strata3D Pro and it is a great program to use. The only thing I don't understand how to do is use the various effects in it like fire & smoke. I have read and followed precisley what the documentation says to do, but i still can't get the fire to work. Every time that i render it just comes up as a little glowing ball.

Can anyone please help me on this.

Well I dont have Strata 3D Pro yet but I am proficient with Strata 3D.

Have you tried applying the effect to an object? If you applied it to a textureless object, it may make flames in the shape of that object (kind of like volumetric texturing).

Other possibility... Have you played around with the options for the effect? To bring them up, double click the effect in the resource pallet. It could have options in there as to making the fire realistic.

Yeah I did apply to an object, both a normal one and also a construction. However every time that i render the result is the same- a small glowing blob. Putting on a texture seams to have little effect also.

Thanks for your input, it is much appreciated 🙂

The object might have to be a certain size. I know that some of the hair effects need to have the object be at least a certain size.

Ah, I don't have pro, but I have the plug-in.

You have to move along in the timeline a little ways, since the fire and smoke are animated effects. They aren't going at the first frame.

thanks both for the help. 🙂

Lower the bouyencey (sp!) and make the wind blow sideways. If you want to make engine flares, use a cone (because the smoke will come out of the tip.) and drag it, with no wind and no bouyency, and longish life, so that the smoke will leave a trail. Then render the current frame.

That should work, but I'm not absolutely sure.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help dude :).
I pretty much got it all working now. I'll be able to post my ship on the image boards soon.
