Does anyone know the HTML flags that will play a sound as soon as someone opens a webpage (and if it's possible for the sound to only play once)?

IE supports a "bgsound" tag. However, for the sound to work in both Netscape and IE, you need to use the "bgsound" tag and the "***** " tag. I think bgsound goes in the "body" tag, but I'm not sure. "***** " should be placed somewhere near the beginning of the document, in the body. Of course, you'll have to fill in the URL to the sound file in the "***** " tag (I assume you know at least a bit about HTML). To make it play once, you use this attribute in the "***** " tag: LOOP=FALSE (I believe). I'm pretty sure this is correct, but it's been a long time since I put sound files in webpages that play automatically (I don't use that very often). Try it, and if it doesn't work, I'll buy you a Coke.

For whatever reason, asterisks keep appearing wherever I put the tag in the last post. It should read: <***** >.
***** ...that's the tag.
***** tag
Why are there asterisks here, instead of what I typed?

Ambrosia's webservers are set to filter m e t a, e m b e d etc in the same way as it filters 'bad' words, just add spaces to bypass those though. This is, I believe for security reasons on boards allowing HTML. WHy it cant have an HTML filter seperate I do not know...

Thanks...now I don't feel like such an idiot.
By the way, the tag is E M B E D . That's how the asterisks should read.

Website + Sound = annoying and obtuse.

Amen! I agree.
Don't worry - this isn't actually a website, it's a read me. I couldn't do what I wanted in Tex-Edit. (Or at least retain it in a Simpletext Read-only)
Actually, there is a way to play a online wave file. I just forget how to do it.

Agreed 100%... if you must use it, make it a clickable link or something, not one that plays automatically. Please?
