Fry: How is it?
Leila: It varies from person to person

Requires a DVD drive, huh? They just limited their target audience rather significantly... 😕

But still, sounds like a pretty good deal. Anyone who decides to try it, post back here and let us know if it's worth it! 🙂

well gee... most new computers have DVD drives, and thats what people will want to run that on: a new computer. and do they want to ship a bunch of different CD's when they can just have it on one DVD? i doubt it.

Hmm.
All new iMacs have CD or CD-RW rather than DVD.
Power Macs can be purchased with CD-RW.
iBooks can be purchased with CD or CD-RW.

Older iMacs often have a CD drive.
Older iBooks often have a CD drive.
Many G3 desktops and laptops have a CD drive.

Obviously, a DVD is convenient, but I still think that they're shooting themselves in the foot somewhat by not offering a CD-based alternative. Their other listed system requirements ("128 MB of RAM, OS 8.5 or newer") are quite generous, and include a pretty sizeable chunk of the Mac market. By not offering CDs as an alternative, they've arbitrarily excluded many people who could probably use the software quite happily.

...But anyway.

Just out of curiousity, what sort of modelling functionality does "ElectricImage Animation System" provide? Given that they also sell "ElectricImage Modelling System" separately, I'm guessing that it's fairly limited in that regard. I looked on their site, but I can't find any information on version 2.9 (which this is) - all I see is new version 3.0. Can you provide some info?

well, 2.9 is just an older version. its what was used for the Duality movie, which has a topic on the B&B.; im really not sure on the limitations though... but it should be modeler and layout programs... but who knows.
