Okay, I feel really stupid asking this, mainly since I use to have a pretty good texture site bookmarked:
Does anyone have a website for textures? I use to know of a pretty good one that also explained lightning and texture technics. I think it was pretty popular and I bet someone knows that I am talking about. Also, if there are any more that would be greatly appretiated. Sorry for the question that is probably asked a million times.
Yet again, search would have been very usefull here.

I don't own a website with textures, though I probably will soon. I have heard that the strata cafe website has some good ones, though...Otherwise, I just look for them on purshased texture CDs.

Yeah, asked a million times by me. I've been in your situation many times before. It is really late right now, so I won't type much, but what exactly do you need? Do you need a site that explains textures in general? Or one that has textures you can use? Maybe one that explains specifically how to make textures? Tell me what you need and I will post a bunch of links for you.

------------------ Check out the brand new (url="http://"http://pub101.ezboard.com/bstarbasedelta")Starbase Delta(/url) webboard. Feel free to contact me on AIM or ICQ, for any reason at all, it doesn't really matter.
Looking for a site with some good ship textures. Metals, etc. Also the site I was talking about had some tips on how to use lighting to help enhance your product etc. So I'm looking for a site that has some textures and also explains how to use them so they look their best. Maybe even a site on creating or editing your own textures.

Found it!
This was the site I was talking about: (url="http://"http://www.integratelecom.com/~ckey/3d/")http://www.integrate...m.com/~ckey/3d/(/url)
But anyothers would be greatly appretiated. Thanks!
Well, it's raining so I don't want to walk home now...
Here are a few links I bookmarked. I didn't visit most of them for a while and maybe it's not exactly what you're looking for, but anyway, just surf around and maybe you will find something useful.
(url="http://"http://meowx.com/texturevault/")http://meowx.com/texturevault/(/url) (explains how to use textures, like fatalin.tycho's Guide) (url="http://"http://www.art.net/~jeremy/photo/public_texture/")http://www.art.net/~...public_texture/(/url) (more or less just fotographs, but some nice ones for metal compounds) (url="http://"http://www.3dmodelworld.com/")http://www.3dmodelworld.com/(/url) (like the one above, but more "metallics") (url="http://"http://www.3dcafe.com/asp/textures.asp")http://www.3dcafe.com/asp/textures.asp(/url) (url="http://"http://www.3dark.com/archives/texturing/space_textures.html")http://www.3dark.com...e_textures.html(/url) (space and planets) (url="http://"http://www.maxon.net")http://www.maxon.net(/url) (Home of C4D, with some more links to texture-sites) (url="http://"http://www.povray.org/")http://www.povray.org/(/url) (GREAT free Raytracer with lot's of online resources) Uh oh... now, I realize how many links there are. It's been quite a while since I was there. Go to "Graphic Links" and then "Texture Resources".... Well, my list looks a bit pathetic now

Meeowx's Texture Depot is very useful. I use it a lot.
Ummm, let's see, try these sites: (url="http://"http://home.earthlink.net/~squibix/ev/shaders.html")http://home.earthlin...ev/shaders.html(/url) (url="http://"http://home.earthlink.net/~squibix/ev/textures.html")http://home.earthlin...v/textures.html(/url) This next one has tons of great textures of all sorts: (url="http://"http://www.maxon.net/deepshade/shader/shadr_inx.html")http://www.maxon.net.../shadr_inx.html(/url) (url="http://"http://www.integraonline.com/~ckey/3d/")http://www.integraonline.com/~ckey/3d/(/url)
Try those, they're pretty useful.
Thanks for the links! Now another question
Anyone know how to add images (such as text images or a simple gif or pic) to the side a 3D image in Strata? Like for instance, say I wanted to add the name of the ship to its hull. How can you do that? I've seen it done a few times and I'm pretty sure you can do it with Strata, but I'm not sure. Anyone have a clue?
Well, that would be tough to do in Strata(cuz it's texturing is wierd). I'm not sure if I can help you there. I'll play around and see if I can get it to work. If it works, I'll show you how I did it.
Thanks. Yea, Strata is messed up when it comes to texturing. None of them ever look really good. Especially for round shaped objects. I would use another program but I know Strata the best. Maybe I'll try Mechanisto.
Hmm, I register for Meowx Texture Depot and it doesn't seem to allow to me login. Any suggestions?
Yeah, just wait for an email. It'll have your name and password to verify it. Then it should work.
-Kevin P.S.-It may take a while before you get an email.
Actually it is quite easy to do in Strata. Open the image map in a graphical editing type program (eg Photoshop). Next add the words or logos or designs, whatever to the image. Make the image BIG so that it scales down properly. Make sure you make the image in the same proportions as your bit of hull you are applying it to (eg if the bit of hull is 7 wide by 10 high then you would make the image map 700 by 1000 pixels or there about so that it scales down and looks really smooth. You may need to apply the original image map as a tiled background so that it doesnt get pixelated. Export the image map as a pict file.
Open the model in Strata 3D go to new Surface Texture in the resource pallet. Open the image map selector and load your image from wherever on your hard disk you saved it. Edit the claustics and whatever so that it reflects and refracts light the way you want it to and then close the editor. Apply the texture to the bit of hull you want it on. Thats it really.
Oh yeah, click on the texturing part of the object pallet to position the texture where you want it.
Oh man that doesnt sound that simple really. Hope you followed it.

I'll just have to take your word for it. I'll try it when I have the time.
