A call to plugin developers

Yes, another plugin, but no, not just your average plugin. Hopefully, I can assemble some of the best thinkers, graphic designers, writers, and applicators to make this plugin integrate seemlessly with EVO.
One difference I noticed between EV and EVO was the replay value. I found it much easier to make money in EVO than in in EV, and soon I found myself with the biggest, baddest ship I could make. What I'm hoping to do with this plugin is to, via missions, sew up the conflicts that were only partially resolved as "central objectives", and to greatly expand the EVO universe.
Some of my goals are to build fleets of new ships, insert 30-40 new systems with 2-3 new governments, each with deep cultural and diplomatic backgrounds, and tons of new outfits/weapons. We should be able to build around the EVO universe, and allow beginners to taste the original EVO world without our interference.
What I will need for the staff:
3-5 graphic artists, who are mature enough to work together and build fleets, weapons, and outfit pics that make sense when compared to each other.
4-5 concept people, people who have good ideas for background info, plot, and different twists that we can throw into the universe.
3-4 writers. Probably the least most important, yet undervalued, member of the staff. Writing can make or break a plugin. Nothing is worse than seeing all sorts of grammatical errors and boring, uninteresting text.
4-5 logistics people. Another very important part of the puzzle, this job takes people who can use an array of programs to build the plugin, be it ResEdit or EVEdit.
1 webmaster. Though I could build a site, in theory, my schedule does not afford me time to work on this project and maintain a site at a satisfactory level. Someone will need to put up a place where staff members can post files, get files, and discuss ideas.

I'm hoping that there are enough people who will want to work on this to make it a success. This will be a major project, and there's no telling how long it will take to complete. Maybe we will have the beta out in a month to a month and a half. If things go well we could complete it before then. It all depends on the level of interest. If you have any interest, please email me about details and the position you would like to occupy.

Sorry, but I don't think you'll be getting too many replies. Nearly everyone is working on something. The Corsair Developers are hard at work with their two plugs. Talos is creating Olympus Wars. Captain LeGrenader(sp?) is making Espeida(sp?). MadFax7 and I are working on Rift. And all the best graphics artists are eaten up as soon as they're available ;).

I'm not even the best artist(I'm just a beginner) and I was asked to work on a plug!! I agree with nwa728, but if you can find some people to work with you, you could create a fairly decent plug.

Good luck!!

2 projects? We only have 1 at the moment. After "Dreden War" is finished we'll work on others (in fact we have a few already). But we only have one. And yeah, the best artists are gobbled up 😄 (CS, Squinky, Jive320, Screamincheez, and others that I'm blanking the name out right now are all in CD).

Good luck finding people. Maybe what you should do is, get beginners for graphics. They'll learn and you could end up with another weepul on your hands (or CS, Squinky, Jive320, Screamincheez, or any of the many others).

I have yet to see a decent plug-in made by a BUNCH of people (1kw don't even got that many people).

You're currently asking for about, 20 fricken people, which is pretty crazy. Notice, all of the great plug-ins (Frozen Heart, F-25, BTC, Femme Fatale, Magma, etc...) have been made by very small groups of people, or only just ONE person.

Mille Terrae started with about 7 people, and now only one person is dedeicated enough to find and fix all of the problems. The remaining few do their jobs, which is to build their galaxy, but only that ONE person is putting it together. Kudos to Jon. That is a prime example of why big teams = dead plug. I'm not even gonna mention the delta_v project...

I would be one of the ones that you are blanking out  Dont worry Im not REALLY mad 😄

Are you going to post that formula we figured out for ship mass? Im sure other people would appreciate it (ship mass is a tricky thing to figure out!)

E-S-P-E-D-I-A (Ess-pe-di-ah) It's a Zori-English word meening "A hastily formed empire" and it's the name of the most prominent government in the plugin.

To Necriol: I suggest visiting Meowx's definitive plugin developers resource page, Resource Freighter 3. The URL is (url="http://"http://meowx.com/evodev/")http://meowx.com/evodev/(/url) Download some of the dev. tools and figure it out for yourself. Plugin making is a lot easier then you may think.

Amen to that, Kwanzar speaks truth for once. 🙂 Heaven knows that a group of three people (as I found out firsthand this semester) who know each other in real life is hard enough to coordinate; 20 people is going to be well-nigh impossible. I suggest you a) do it yourself, 🆒 decrease the size of the team, or c) give up (not recommended). 🙂

The Kwanzar Man has a point. It may not be impossible for a large group to build a good plug, but it hasn't happened yet. Mille Terrae started with about 7, I think, a few more wandered in, some left, and now the team is down to about 4 with, as Kwanzar said, one doing most of the work at present. The pattern has been repeated many times with a group starting and several people contributing work of various sorts, then drifting away leaving much of the work unfinished - New Republic is another example from the distant past. If you can recruit a team and keep them together through the completion of a plug, more power to you, but I doubt if you can really depend on anyone other than yourself sticking with a project all the way. But don't give up the idea of making a plug, we need all the good quality plugs we can get.

Kwanzar, why not mention the delta_v project? We need a little buzz about it 🙂

Necriol, a few words of advice, I wanted to do something LIKE you are doing.

All I once wanted to do is add ONE government, about the same "size" as the Voinian. The only way it can be well organized to where people don't fail and don't disagree is to let them work by themselves as much as possible.

Now, as for what happened to my plugin, every time I wanted to add one thing, I saw that I should add another. Soon my plug in required much work in the Voinian, UE and Renegade systems. Then I needed to balance stuff out and not feel to leave one group or another out, one "simple" plan involved practically half the Univese.

My advice to you is to really just start small. You have no name for yourself in the EV/O community. What you should do is get a large portion DONE, then come back and ask for further help once everyone sees that you are on the right track. I have yet to hear anyone say, "Well, my plug-in seemed to get smaller as I went on" 😉
Hell, look at the TC Nova plug, it has been redone 3 times and now has its own engine...

Expect the unexpected. Seriously though, start small and show us what you got before asking for help, just a few friendly suggestions...

yes, funny how that rings a bell with me as well... 🙂

remember Berillium? One of our last official projects before we "dissolved?"

well, rumor has it that Berillium is still in poduction and that Aeon has re-emerged under the guise of Orbital Productions... Check out (url="http://"http://www.orbitalpro.com")www.orbitalpro.com(/url).

Kwanzar, as everyone agrees, has a point about teams working on plugs. True, most of the great ones have small teams or one person. However, there is a ploblem with doing everything yourself.

First, I've been plugging away at the CB project of mine for what, two, three years now? Oh how it's changed since it started, and how I've changed, too. Time to work on it is a serious issue, and at times I get down and don't think it'll ever be finished. If I had another person (it's have to be physcial, in-person correspondance to really work well), it'd be a good motivational thing.

A good reason for a team, or at least a team or writers, is that things written all by one person tend to have a more singular point of view, and the same style all the way through.

Team, no team...it's up to you, and how many people you can find who'll stick with it. However, 16-22 people is a little much. People can multitask, too...share responisbilites and whatnot. I'd say about three people would be a good size, maybe four.

As for the plug-in idea, I think it's well worth producing. The more good plugs, the better.

(as a side note, nobody's gobbled me up as an artist...)
