Do import movie, it should work. Also QT Pro is a must buy. I mean it is really nice, with its edit movies/sounds, etc features. Plus it has nice, easy export features. And really, with all the stuff you and your family has (I am basing this on your posts and references to $1,000 keyboards, ISDN, cool computers, ect.), it seems like you need it.

My dad might have QuickTime Pro on his G3, but I can't find it on my G3. :frown: I'll try buying it sometime soon if I get desperate. And by the way, we more then just 1,000 dollars invested into midi devices and such. We also have programs like "Sibelius," which cost just about as much as our Yamaha keyboard. πŸ™‚ My brother takes composing very seriously...

Ok everyone! I downloaded iTunes, and was able to burn the track I wanted, which is now in MP3 format. Now, another question...How do I actually edit the music? The track I burned is 7:57 seconds, but I only want the first 28 seconds of it...How do I edit the music? The file is currently 9 mb...A rediculous size for internet use...If anyone could tell me how to actually edit the music, it would really help me out a lot, and maybe have the actual music for the plug finished. Thanks!

You should get Quicktime Pro. It's $25, no big deal, and It's fricken worth it. If not, hopefully you d/led SoundApp, cause this would be the time to use it. Give it as much memory as you can, and convert the mp3 into a system 7 sound file. It might not work tho...sometimes the program ****s. Hoepfully, you also d/led SoundEffects. Riccisoft doesn't support the app anymore, last time I checked, so it might not be at their website. You can look for it on hotline or you can e-mail me for it.

Everything after that is pretty self explanitory, so you'll probably figure it out.

Use Sound Edit to get the 28 seconds you want. Sound Edit isn't available to download ,unfortunately, you have to buy it. Go to (url="http://"http://www.adobe.com/")http://www.adobe.com/(/url) for more stuff on Sound Edit.

9MB for 7 MINUTES?
Hm,
open iTunes again and convert it again...
this time LOWER quality
You can edit it with Quicktime, that's for sure...
Trust me, quicktime is REALLY worth buying...

Oh yeah, if you want to put it into yer plug, convert your 28 seconds to a system sound file later and the put it into your plug (When converting to system soundfile, make it even worse quality, because the system soundfiles are HUGE)

------------------
Arrrrrrr, matey!!!!

Correction: The mp3 file is 9mb, while the original sound file is 80.0 mb. πŸ™‚

I already have SoundApp, which I downloaded last night. It looks like a rather simple program, but I can't seem to figure out how to edit the music...Nothing seems to really happen whatever buttons you press.

7 sound file? I'm not familiar with those...(now you're becoming familiar with just how poor I am in the audio area. :)) Actually, I'm really not wanting to port the 28 second music clip into my plugin just yet...I really just want it in mp3 format, so I can post it at our (the Corsairs) web board, see if they like it, and then worry about porting it into the plugin. So at the moment, I just need to edit out everything but the first 28 seconds of music. SoundApp will do just that?

Thankyou all, especially Kwanza and Meowx, for your help so far...

I think you can use (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Garage/9373/sndsampler.html")Sndsampler(/url) for this. I haven't used it on mp3s, but I assume it can open them; and if it can then all you have to do is select the part of the track you want, and save it as a new document. Easy as can be.

Oh Sibelius! My brother-inlaw loves that program. He uses it all the time (in fact if you want to hear some of work which he did on Sibelius go by the U of Pittsburgh where some of his pieces are performed because the Conductor likes them, pretty good for a grad student, eh?).

Hey, that is cool! You mean the Pittsburgh symphony orchestra performs his compositions? Wow...I'd be proud. πŸ™‚ Sibelius (I believe I'm spelling it right) is the best composing program you'll find anywhere. My brother and I combined our money together, and even though our homeschool student discounts knocked about three hundred dollars off the price, we still had to pay about three hundred. I believe it is worth the price. πŸ™‚ I have written some music for orchestra, but it isn't that good. My first composition was called "Appalachian Country," and I haven't really done much since then...Oh well.

I've been e-mailing the composer (the likely replacement of John Williams once he retires) of the "Medal of Honor" and "Medal of Honor: Underground" computer game music (made by Dreamworks), and he is really something. He recently scored the "Sempler Fi" movie that came on TV recently, based on the U.S. Marines. His name is Michael Giacchino, and I believe his name will be in the books in a few years. His style is sooo much like John Williams...

Hm,
You could just spent like 20 bucks on Quicktime Pro.. And your Audio problems are solved...
You can edit there perfectly...
I always do it like this:
1.Convert the CD audio file to .mov format with quicktime
2.Take the part out I need
3.Save it (make self containing)
4.Convert it to mp3

simple as that... Quicktime is standard nowadays anyways, and I think everyone should at least have it installed on his computer. (If not the Pro version too)

Sounds quick and easy! I'm going to verify for sure wether or not we have QuickTime Pro, (if we do, I've probably lost the serial number...) and if not, I believe I'll go ahead and buy it for future audio tasks.

Also, I finally found someone who could edit the music for me at my board, so that's all taken care of. Thanks you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to help me out. πŸ™‚

Well if your father has it then you can use his serial number. How you find it out is you go to Quicktime SettingsΒ™ on the Apple Menu Control Panels. And then go to Registration where it says the serial number. It's as easy as that!

Note: I am not advocating piracy it's just that when Apple sells it to someone it doesn't matter to them whether it's MSU or an individual programmer. Anybody who's part of MSU can use QT Pro with no repurcussions. And it's the same for the programmers family. However that programmer (or major university) can't then give it to a neighbor (or friendly university) legally. Do you see my point?

Oh yes, I see your point. Believe me, I know very well how copyright laws and such opperate. πŸ™‚

Actually, my dad said he does have QuickTime pro, but he doesn't have it installed on his machine at the moment. He said he has the serial number written down somewhere...

As far as I know, when you buy software, it's licensed for 1 computer... But I think it's nonsense not to share within a household in cases like Photoshop or Macromedia programs and such which cost a couple of hundred $.
(Heck, I even share all my dad's programs...)

Almost all the programs we have (like Photoshop, Canvas, LiveMotion, GoLive etc...) are split up between our two G3s. I don't believe buying two copies of Photoshop 6.0 at several hundred dollars for two G3s in the same room would be necissary...But going any further in that is, in my opinion, pirating. I just look at buying software this way: How would you feel if you spent years developing a program, only to find out that people weren't paying for your product? I would hate that...
